BURGLARY - The store of S. F. & W. WITHERSPOON opposite the Eagle was
entered by some person last night and a lot of cigars and some fish lines
were taken away. The rogues came in by the way of a sky light in the rear
from Irving Hall entrance. It was quite likely a boy's operation, similar
toothers that have been perpetrated lately. No arrests have been made.

RETURN OF MAJOR LEE - We understand that Major C. G. LEE, who has spent
the past winter in the South for his health, arrived at New York yesterday,
homeward bound, in improved health. --
The Union Grays, of which he is Commander, will probably go to Syracuse or
Utica to-morrow or Thursday, to meet him and escort him home.

Discovery of the Body of MORTIMER LOOMIS
We learned late evening, by a dispatch over the Genesee Valley
telegraph, politely furnished by Mr. L.S. HOYT, House operator, that the
remains of the late Mortimer LOOMIS, who disappeared from Avon sometime
since, were found in that vicinity.
The dispatch reads as follows:
Avon, May 23
The body of Mortimer LOOMIS was found in the Genesee river, near the
Railroad Bridge, in the village, this afternoon.
Mr. LOOMIS disappeared on the evening of the 19th March last, and his
continued absence has caused a considerable degree of excitement in Avon
and vicinity.
We learn from Mr. S. Jor_, messenger on the Valley Railroad, that the
money known to have been in the possession of the missing man, was found
upon his body, and there were no evidence of violence to indicate that
he was wrongfully deprived of his life.
He was last seen alive proceeding along the road from West Avon, going
westward, and probably fell off the highway bridge accidentally.
He was about 40 years of age, and had no family, but had been a great traveller.
