THE EAGLE BLOCK - Mr. POWERS is pushing along his improvements in that portion of the Eagle Block which he had purchased. Two stores are being constructed in the western portion, one of which is to be occupied by Mr. McGUIRE as a confectionary establishment. The office of the Eagle is being altered to become an elegant store. The stone portico will remain, but the floors will be lowered. This store when completed, will be used as a depot and salesroom of the Wheeler & Wilson Sewing Machine Co., and will be one of the best for the purpose ever used in this city.
Messrs. A. Strong & Co. will ere long make such improvements in the store they purchased as will adapt it to their wants.
What is to be done with the remainder of the block, yet owned by Mr. WALBRIDGE, is not known. There are rumors of sale, but nothing has transpired in that way, but the property is understood to be in market.

VAN VALKENBURG - In Bath, on the evening of April 27th, Catharine F., wife of the Hon. B. R. VAN VALKENBURG aged 40 (or) 48 years.
Her illness, which was protracted for more than a year, was accompanied by continued and extraordinary suffering. It was however, marked by corresponding degrees of divine grace, producing great faith, patience and hope of the Saviour. In the very extreme of suffering she said, "My will is subject to the Cross." She spoke of the great goodness of God to her to those who mentioned her pains, and repeated the lines-
"Come thou, Almighty King,
Help me thy name to sing."
