Prisoner Sentence
William MAHON, of whom it was said yesterday that he would be placed on trial in the afternoon, for burglary and
larceny, pleaded guilty to receiving property - lap robes, owned by J. T. STEWART. He claimed that he was innocent
of the offence charged, said that there was a witness who could clear him, but he did not know where the witness
could be found. The Court could not delay trial on an excuse that would postpone it indefinitely, but as the prisoner
had born a fair character, he was given the light sentence of three months in the Penitentiary.
Ignatz HEINSLER, yesterday convicted of burglary in the third degree, was sentenced to imprisonment in State's
prison at Auburn for five years.
James SEFTON and Charles WOOD pleaded guilty to burglary in the second degree, committed at Frank B. BISHOP'S dwelling
in Pittsford. SEFTON was sent to Auburn for four years, and WOOD to the Penitentiary for two years.
John GARDNER, concerned in the burglary and larceny at Fred WAHLE'S clothing store on State street, pleaded guilty.
Sentence postponed.
At the hour of going to press the jury were out in the case of John, alias Edward, KELLY, on trial for burglary
and larceny.
Michael PERRY, who was convicted yesterday of an assault with intent to rob, this morning receiving sentence, and
was committed to state prison at Auburn for ten years. He is 24(?) Years old, and could neither read nor write.
He assumed an air of bravado, and thanked the court for the sentence.
