Daily Record of Deaths and Funerals in the City and Vicinity
A private dispatch received in this city yesterday brought the intelligence of the death in Chicago, on Saturday
night last, of Mrs. Sophia HARRIS, the wife of S. V. HARRIS, formerly of Rochester, and for some time associated
with the old OSBURN house. Mrs. HARRIS was a woman who enjoyed the love and esteem of a large circle of friends
in Rochester, and the news of her death will be read with sorrow by many a former associate and friend. She was
possessed of many valuable traits of character which go toward the composition of a high type of Christian womanhood,
and to the husband will be extended general sympathy. The remains will be brought to this city, and the funeral
will be held at the residence of Nehemiah OSBURN, 1 East avenue, at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon.
Lily, daughter of George BLESSER, died yesterday at her home in Mendon, aged 18 years. The funeral will be held
at the house on Wednesday morning.
The death of Mrs. Emily GORDON occurred yesterday at her house in Gates, aged 67 years. The remains will be taken
to Rushford for interment.
The death of Mrs. William G. SCOFIELD occurred last evening at her home, on East Main street. The deceased was
21 years of age, and leaves a husband and one child.
Cecelia, daughter of the late George MARTIN, of 367 Jay street, died yesterday, aged 7 years. The funeral will
take place at 10 o'clock to-morrow morning, at the church of Sts. Peter and Paul.

The remains of Mrs. William G. SCOFIELD were yesterday taken to Cato for interment.
The funeral of Lily, daughter of George BLESSER, will be held to-morrow morning, at her father's residence on South
avenue.
The death of Patrick DOOLEY occurred in Avon on Sunday. The deceased was the father of Dennis DOOLEY, of this city.
Henry, son of John GARVEY, of 361 Jefferson avenue, died yesterday morning, aged 15 years. Notice of the funeral
will be given hereafter.
William SLOBBE, aged 64 years, died yesterday at his home in Irondequoit. The funeral will be held at the Oregon
street church at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
Rose, daughter of August MOTERY, of 52 Weld street, died yesterday at her home. The funeral will take place at
St. Joseph's church at 8:30 o'clock to-morrow morning.
The friends of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. VANDERBECK, formerly of this city, will be pained to learn of the death of their
eldest son, Dewey, which occurred at Denver Col.
Martin KRAUSNECK, aged 63 years, died yesterday at his home on Thorne street. The deceased leaves a widow, one
son and two daughters. The funeral will take place at the house at 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon.
The death of David HARTLEY, aged 56 years, occurred yesterday at his residence, corner of Lyell avenue and Orchard
street. The deceased left a widow and one child. The funeral will take place at the house at 2 o'clock to- morrow
afternoon.
The death of William CORNING, Jr., occurred yesterday morning at the residence of his father on North St. Paul
street. The deceased had been ill for some time and his death was not entirely unexpected. Besides his father,
his mother and two brothers survive.

LACE — November 11, 1885, Nellie, only daughter of Bridget LACE, aged 4 years and 9 months. — Interment took place
Saturday, the 14th, at Seneca Falls, where it was attended by many sorrowing friends.
CORNING — At the residence of his father, Monday morning, November 16, William CORNING, Jr., aged 35 years. — Funeral
from the residence of William CORNING, North St. Paul street, Wednesday, November 19th, at 2 o'clock p.m.
SLOBBE — At the residence of his son-in-law, Isaac BUYEK. Irondequoit, Sunday evening, William SLOBBE, aged 63
years and 10 months. — Funeral will take on Tuesday, at 12:30 o'clock from the house and 2 o'clock p.m. at the
Reformed church, Oregon street.

The death of Dewey W., son of J. B. and Emma S. (VANDERBECK) WARE has occurred in Denver, Colorado.
The funeral of William CORNING, jr., will be held at the residence of his father on North St. Paul street, at 2
o'clock this afternoon.
Mrs. Endora GUNTHER died yesterday, aged 34 years. The funeral will take place at 2:30 o'clock to-morrow afternoon,
at the house on Carter street.
The funeral of the infant son of Michael CLANCY, of Gates, will take place at the house, at 10 o'clock this morning.
Scarlet fever was the cause of death.
Mrs. Mary A. KELLY, widow of the late Patrick KELLY, died at her residence 409 Plymouth avenue, at 3 o'clock yesterday
morning. She leaves four sons and six daughters, Patrick, James, Philip and Michael, and Mrs. Frank HOOK, Mrs.
William CASEY, Rose, Katie, Susie. The funeral will take place at 9 o'clock to-morrow morning, at Imaculate Conception
church.

J. R. CHAMBERLAIN, of Hartford, Conn., and a resident of Rochester thirty years ago, is in the city on a visit
to friends.
Warner M. WESCOTT left last evening for South Bend, Ind., where he is to assume a position in the establishment
of the Oliver chilled plow works.
Miss E. M. HOLLEY, daughter of Byron HOLLEY, of the Executive board, left last evening for the south where she
will remain during the winter months.

The case of Sarah HOLLISTER, as administratrix, against Helen C. MILLER, as administratrix, has been referred to
Nathaniel FOOTE.
Three cases of diptheria were reported at the health office yesterday; two from 85 Sherman street and one from
67 Ambrose street.
E. S. HAYWARD, who several weeks ago made an offer to compromise with the city for damages alleged to have arisen
from the Court and William streets and Upton park sewers passing through his land, by accepting in lieu of full
damages $250 a year, yesterday morning withdrew his offer and notified the Executive board.

MUST PAY FOR THE LIGHT
Last Saturday John N. BECKLEY appeared before Judge BROWN, at special term in New York, and obtained an order granting
leave to the Kelly Lamp company, of this city, to sue Horace RUSSELL and Theodore HOUSTON, receivers of the New
York, West Shore and Buffalo railway, to recover the value of eighty-five locomotive head- lights, or possession
of the property. The value of the lamps is $3,795.

street, to-day (Thursday) at 3 o'clock p.m. The remains will be taken to Mt. Morris for interment.
CLARK — Suddenly, at the residence of her son-in-law, Charles B. HATCH, Mrs. Mary LEFFINGWELL CLARK, aged 70 years.

GUENTHER - In this city on the 17th inst., Olive Eudora, aged 38 years and 8
months, wife of John GUENTHER.

The death of William J., son of John SHEEHY, of Sherman street, occurred yesterday. The funeral was held yesterday
at the house.
Mrs. Amelia MANNIX, aged 56 years, died yesterday at St. Mary's hospital. The funeral will be held at the hospital
at 9 o'clock this morning.
The remains of the late Richard McGRAHAN, aged 76 years, were yesterday taken to Avon. The funeral was held at
the Catholic church in that village yesterday forenoon.
Noble DENNISON, of 68 Glasgow street, died yesterday, aged 66 years. The deceased leaves a widow and four daughters.
The remains will be taken to Mount Morris for interment.

--David J. PYE and Miss Alice KEITH were married Wednesday by Rev. C. J.

--Andrew B. COSTICH and Lousia LOOS of Irondequoit were united in marriage
Wednesday at the Church of Our Lord of Victory by Rev. A. A. NOTEBAERT.
--John (TOIL or TOLL), who has for several years been connected with E. R.
ANDREWS' printing house, left yesterday for Minneapolis, where he will make
his future home.
--Miss Cora E. LEAVENWORTH, teacher in school No. 6, and Edward P. BACKUS,
were married yesterday afternoon at the residence of the bride's parents,
245 Lake avenue. Rev. Dr. SHAW officiated.
--About thirty members of branch thirty-four C. M. B. A., called on
Chancellor John J. NEWBERT at his residence, 501 North street, Tuesday
evening. On behalf of the organization George MESSMER presented Mr. NEWBERT
a handsome gold beaded cane and the recipient made an appropriate
acknowledgment. The evening was pleasantly passed, the visitors being
hospitably entertained by Mr. NEWBERT and wife.
--Stephen A. DOODY and Miss Kate DOWLING were united in marriage at the
Cathedral Wednesday afternoon. A reception was held in the evening at the
residence of the bride's sister, Mrs. W. C. YORKEY, 30 Upton Park.
--Joseph TER HAAR and Miss Susie RIBSTEIN were married Wednesday morning by
Rev. Father MASMACHER,
assisted by Rev. Fathers MAGIN and NETZEL. A reception was held in the
evening at the residence of the bride's parents, 465 St. Joseph street.
--Ezra M. SPARLIN of Brockport, and Miss Emma GRAHAM were united in marriage
at the residence of the bride's parents in Honeoye Falls, yesterday
afternoon. The groom is a graduate of the University of Rochester and well
known in this city. The newly wedded couple will reside in Spencerport.
--D. M. GARSON left for New York last evening to meet his father family, who
are expected to arrive Saturday by steamer Umbria from Liverpool.
--Mrs. E. S. COFFRAIN(?), of Buffalo, and Mrs. E. WHITBECK, of New York
city, were the guests of Mrs. C. M. PALMER, 13 Briggs place, Thanksgiving
day.
--John D. TOLL left yesterday for Minneapolis, Minn., where he intends going
into business.
--Hon. George H. LAPHAM, banker of Penn Yan, enjoyed Thanksgiving in
Rochester.

DEATHS AND FUNERALS
--John W. THOMPSON, of 132 Court street, died Wednesday, aged forty-five
years. The funeral took place at three o'clock yesterday afternoon.
--Anthony H. (R, K or H)ASSEALL died yesterday at his home, 54 Oak street,
aged forty-two years. Deceased was driver for the Alert hose company. He had
been connected with the fire department for a number of years, and held the
position of assistant chief engineer for several terms. A wife and four
children survive. The funeral services will be held from the house at two
o'clock Sunday afternoon.
--Mrs. Harriet S. OLIVER, died yesterday at the residence of her son-in-law,
Charles P. BOSWELL, 398 East avenue. Deceased was eighty years of age and
had resided in Rochester a number of years. Besides Mrs. BOSWELL, one
son, William S. OLIVER, survives.
--Mrs. Elizabeth DRANDE, of 45 Orange street, died yesterday morning, aged
forty-six years. One son, Frank D. DRANDE, and a married daughter, Mrs.
Matilda TINES, survive.
--James HARRISON, died yesterday afternoon at his home on Bolivar street,
aged seventy-seven years. One son and four daughters survive.
--Martha, daughter of the late Francis BELLOW, died yesterday at her home,
469 Lyell avenue, aged twenty years.
--Mary J. ADAMS died Wednesday afternoon at 129 Jay street, aged nineteen
years. The remains were taken to Albion this morning.
--John McCARTHY died yesterday at St. Mary's hospital, aged thirty-five
years. The funeral took place from the hospital at nine o'clock this
morning.
--Mary CARPENTER died Tuesday at her home, 23 Moore street. The funeral was
held from the house yesterday afternoon.
--James E. HANNA, son of Nicholas HANNA, died this morning at his father's
house, 12 North Union street. Deceased was thirty-two years of age, and
leaves a wife and three children. The funeral will take place Sunday at 8
o'clock from the home and at 8:15 from St. Mary's church.
--Robert D. SMITH died last night at the residence of his daughter,
Mrs. Franklin S. STEBBINS, 24 Hamilton place, aged seventy-seven years.
Deceased was an old and respected resident of the Twelfth ward.
--At her residence, 75 Savannah street, at 11 o'clock Wednesday
evening, Mrs. Ann KURTZ, wife of Conrad KURTZ, aged 58 years. Mrs. KURTZ was
a native of the Isle of Man and came to this city thirty-five years ago. She
has been a sufferer for many years, but the immediate cause of her
death was Bright's disease of the kidneys. She was beloved by all her
neighbors and acquaintances for her kind disposition and affection. She
leaves a husband and three sons - Robert W. and John J. Lace and Frank E.
KURTZ, to mourn her loss. The funeral will take place from the
residence Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
--A daughter of Myron C. LUDLAM, of 163 Alexander street, died this morning,
aged twenty-one years.
