DR. WILLIAM Y. PAGE
Death of a Prominent Young Physician at the City Hospital
(Sketch of Dr. William Y. PAGE)
Dr. William Y. PAGE died last evening at a quarter
past 6 o'clock at the City Hospital after a brief illness of diphtheria. He
was taken sick Friday of last week and grew steadily worse until Monday when
he was removed from his residence, 380 West avenue, to the hospital. The
best medical aid and every attention availed not to check the dread disease,
which the physician had contracted in the performance of professional duty.
Dr. PAGE was known as one of the ablest of the
younger physicians of the city. He was the son of Rev. William L. PAGE, a
Presbyterian clergyman of this city. Dr. PAGE was born in Sangerfield,
Oneida county, December 18, 1862. The family removed to Rochester in 1869
and the subject of this sketch began to prepare for college under a
tutorship of Prof. BENJAMIN. He entered the University of Rochester in the
fall of 1881, graduating with the class of '85. In April, 1888, he completed
a medical course at the university of the city of New York, and began the
practice of his profession at Avon, Livingston county, where he remained one
year and then removed to this city. For several months Dr. PAGE was
assistant house physician at the City Hospital. He was a member of the
Rochester Pathological Society, the Monroe County Medical Society and the
Central New York Medical Society. The first and second named societies will
hold a meeting at Worden's parlors at 8 p.m. to-day to take action on his
death.
Dr. PAGE leaves a wife, formerly Miss Minnie PRATT,
daughter of the late Ira PRATT. Besides his father he also leaves one
sister, Miss Julia B. PAGE, and two brothers, Robert V. and J. Stuart, the
latter a member of the senior class of the university. The funeral will take
place Friday, at 10 a.m. from 380 West avenue and the interment will be at
Newark, N. Y.
