Nunda-- William Close, a veteran of the Civil War, and member of Company I, 130(?) (or 136) Regiment died this
morning with heart disease at the age of 66 years. Mr. Close was a well-known farmer and was born in the town of
Nunda, moving into the village six years ago. He was a member of Craig W. Wadsworth Post, G. A. R. and that post
will have charge of the funeral.
Nunda--Last night Mrs. Susanna Day, a life long resident of Nunda, aged about 76 years, died very suddenly with
apoplexy. She lived alone in her home on Vermont street and the family of C. L. Cudebec, who are neighbors, not
seeing her around during the day, forced an entrance and found her unconscious in bed. She died without regaining
her senses.
P. Strong of Conesus, aged 82 years, died Friday, January 19, 1900. He is survived by Mrs. P. O'Connor of Sacramento,
Mr. Jas. Strong, San Francisco, Mr. Thomas Strong, Mr. Patrick Strong, Miss B. A. Strong of Conesus, Mrs. A. G.
Waidert and Miss Louise Strong of Rochester. Funeral services at St. William's Church, Conesus, at 8 o'clock Monday
morning. Burial at Holy Sepulchre cemetery after the arrival of the 10:45 train on Erie road.
Miss Ketty McGovern died yesterday at the family residence, No. 80 Thompson street, aged 26 years.
Alexander Stoddard died yesterday at the family residence, No. 54 Julia street, aged 70 years.
The funeral of Alice Redfern Gregory will be held from the family residence, No. 78 Edinburgh street, at 3 o'clock
this afternoon.
The funeral of Mrs. Martha Wilbur was held from the residence of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Nathan P. Wilbur, No.
38 Scio street, at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
The funeral of John McKelvey was held from the residence of his son, William J. McKelvey, No. 9 Locust street,
at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon.
Thomas Boyle was convicted in the police court to-day of drunkenness and was sentenced to pay a fine of $5 or serve
thirty days. Boyle, who has been convicted a number of times, was arrested on Aqueduct street yesterday afternoon
by Officers Moran and Lanemel. He was very drunk when taken into custody.
Michael Gurn was convicted in the police court to-day of drunkenness was sentenced to serve two months in the penitentiary.
The records show that Gurn has been convicted half a dozen times. When arrested Gurn was in company with an old
man named William Harrison, who was also arrested for being drunk. He was paroled.
Special memorial services in honor of the late Rev. Dr. W. D'Orville Doty will be held at Christ Church to-morrow
morning. Bishop Walker will be in attendance at the services and Rev. Elijah H. Edson will be the minister in charge.
The memorial sermon will be preached by Rev. Walton W. Battershall, D.D., rector of Christ Church. A special musical
programme has been prepared for the occasion and the service will be one of the most impressive
ever celebrated in this city.
