SYRACUSE, May 18. — The Post-Standard to-day prints the following under a Clyde date:
"A highly sensational funeral service was held at Marengo, five miles south of Clyde, at 2 o'clock yesterday.  As a result that usually quiet community is ablaze with excitement.
"Patrick HUNT, 55 years old, colored, formerly a slave, who came to this section just after the close of the Civil war, died Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock.  Three yeas ago HUNT married a white woman named Jessie McBETH, a widow with several children.  This strange union is said to have been a stormy one.  HUNT is survived by his wife and one daughter, Ella BOND of Sodus Point.
"Last Monday morning HUNT, in apparently good health, went to work in the woods, taking his dinner with him.  At noon he ate his dinner and soon after was taken violently ill.  He managed to get home and sent for Dr. T.H. HALLET of Clyde.  The doctor found him very sick and diagnosed the case as acute peritonitis.  HUNT suffered great agony until 7 o'clock, when he died.  Undertaker A.D. COLLIER of Clyde was summoned and embalmed the body.
"Some of the neighbors spread the report that he had been poisoned.  Just before the funeral Ella BOND, his daughter, demanded that a post-mortem be held, saying she thought her father had been poisoned.  The widow said the body should not be touched while in her home.
"A very distressing scene was avoided by the intervention of friends and the funeral proceeded, the pastor of Ely's Corners church officiating.
"Toward the close of the services the daughter suddenly renewed her accusations, backed by a stranger who had accompanied her to the funeral, many of the neighbors siding with her.
"Mrs. HUNT took up the gauntlet, supported by others of the mourners and neighbors.  The grewsome argument waxed hot and each side became bitterly personal.
"During the height of the excitement the minister, after vainly attempting to restore peace, beat a retreat.  The undertaker under cover of the dispute took the corpse from the rear room and started for the cemetery.  When this move was discovered it broke up the meeting in wild confusion.
"The daughter and her partisans declare that HUNT was poisoned and that a post-mortem shall be held. The attending physician says there were no symptoms of poisoning present.  An investigation will doubtless follow.
