PENN YAN
The fire which so seriously damaged the house of D.O. TRIMMER on Saturday
morning, is still much of a mystery as regards origin. No fire had been in
the building that day, except a gas fire in the kitchen, and that was not
then burning. Mrs. TRIMMER and daughters were below stairs, and one had
cause to go above and open the garret door, when flames burst out. The slate
roof and the intricate construction of the garret made it a most obstinate
fire to handle, and before it could be controlled the entire upper story was
gutted. Mr. TRIMMER was not in town. The house was insured for $2,000, and
the contents for $1,000.
