GOLDEN WEDDING OF LE ROY COUPLE

Event Celebrated By Mr. And Mrs. M. A. Merritt
Received Afternoon And Evening
Mr. Merritt is the Oldest Member of the Methodist Church -
Members of the Church Arranged the Reception - House Tastefully Decorated

Le Roy, Oct. 2 - A very pleasant event took place to-day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. MERRITT, on Lake street, when they celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. Mr. and Mrs. MERRITT are among the best known residents of Le Roy and are held in high esteem by all their acquaintances. Time has dealt very gently with the bride and groom of fifty years (line unreadable) good health.
Mr. MERRITT has the distinction of being the oldest living member of the Le Roy Methodist Church, which he has always taken an active part. Mrs. MERRITT has been a member of the church since girlhood and they are both regular attendants at the services.
It was due to their activeness in the church that the occasion of to-day was planned by the members of that church, who determined that the occasion should not go unnoticed and therefore arranged to tender Mr. and Mrs. MERRITT a reception in the afternoon and also in the evening. The first part of the day was given up entirely to the immediate family circle, the children and grandchildren of the couple being there to dinner which was served at noon. There were present at the dinner Mr. and Mrs. Warren C. SMITH and children, of Le Roy; Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. ROOT and children, of Caledonia and Miss May MERRITT, of Le Roy. Their other daughter, Miss Irene Augusta MERRITT, who is teaching in Patterson, N. Y., was unable to be present.
The house was tastefully decorated for the occasion and presented a very inviting appearance. In the afternoon, between the hours of 4 and 6 o'clock, the people of the Methodist Church held their first reception at the MIRRITT home. Mrs. F. L. STONE and Mrs. T. W. LARKIN acted as the reception committee, greeting the guests upon their arrival and introducing them to Mr. and Mrs. MERRITT, who received in the parlor. After congratulations, (next 2 lines unreadable) Albert COE and Mrs. J. B. WARREN presided at the table and Misses Laura I. STONE and Amelia DUTTON served.
The second reception was held between the hours of 7 and 9 o'clock. During this Mrs. J. E. PRATT and Mrs. P. J. SPERRY presided at the table and Misses Laura STONE, Bertha LARKIN and Louise BRYANT served.
Mr. MERRITT was born at Pauling, N. Y., on August 31, 1830, and at the age of 19 he came to Le Roy, which has since been his home. He learned the carpenter trade and for many years was engaged in contracting and building, having for a number of years built the best class of houses in Le Roy. In 1856 he married Mary L. PIERSON and they at once began keeping house and for thirty-five years they have resided in their present home. Mr. MERRITT has served the village of Le Roy as trustee and in the Methodist Church he has held a number of prominent offices.
Mrs. MERRITT was born in Le Roy on February 15, 1835, and is the daughter of the late Edwin PIERSON. She was educated at Lima Seminary and at Ingham University in Le Roy.

COMMITTEE ASSESSES ASSAULT

Pedersons Complained of Piano Music and Were Ejected

Albert ZIMBRICH was in police court yesterday, charged with assault in the third degree upon Mets and Louise PEDERSON, of No. 243 Parsells avenue. He pleaded not guilty to both charges, and will have a hearing on October 9th.
ZIMBRICH occupies the flat above the PEDERSONS. It is alleged that Mrs. ZIMBRICH's piano music did not please the people below. So they formed themselves into an indignation committee, and going up stairs to the ZIMBRICH door demanded that the music cease.
It is further alleged that ZIMBRICH did not relish the visit of the PEDERSON committee. He is accused of having gently but very firmly pushed the PEDERSON committee down the staircase. The abrupt manner of the committee's reception did not please the complainants, so they went to police headquarters and obtained warrants for assault.
