THE BARGE MARY ANN LEYDEN WILL BE RAISED FROM BEACH
Patrick M. PATTERSON, of Queenstown, Ont.. with his crew of
four men, who deserted the barge Mary Ann Leyden that went ashore off Grand View
Beach, four miles West of Charlotte last October, returned to Charlotte
yesterday by rail. They have commenced the work of making the necessary repairs
to put the boat afloat and put her into service.
The Mary Ann Leyden has remained on the sandy bottom of the
beach during the winter without any apparent additional damage. The boat is
light, her cargo having been removed last fall, and the water has raised at this
point about eight inches during the past two weeks, although the boat is still
40 inches lower than when she went ashore. It is expected, however, that the
boat will be released without damage.
