MINISTER TAKEN ILL AT MEETING

Rev. G. L. Hamilton Seized With Paralysis
Presiding At The Time
Clergyman is Assisted From Presbyterian Ministers' Meeting to Next Room,
Then Taken Home, Addresses on Topics of Interest

As he presided at the weekly meeting of Presbyterian ministers yesterday forenoon at the Y. M. C. A., Rev. Gavin L. HAMILTON was overtaken by illness. This venerable clergyman is rarely able to attend the meetings and he had been asked to take charge. About five minutes before he collapsed, Mr. HAMILTON presented to his associates former Governor Robert B. GLENN, of North Carolina, who had been invited to address the ministers.
Feeling himself losing strength, Mr. HAMILTON turned to the secretary of the meeting, saying, "I think you will have to take my place." The secretary rose and supported him on the right, while Dr. T. J. KITTRIDGE came forward and assisted him on the left. Mr. HAMILTON was able, with the help of the two men, to walk into the next room. There he was laid on a couch and his physician, Dr. William S. RAMBO, was summoned. The aged minister's gaze became fixed and it was apparent that he had suffered a stroke.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. WATSON, son-in-law and daughter of Mr. HAMILTON, and his son, R. A. HAMILTON, were called. He was taken to his home in an ambulance. Late in the afternoon he was not able to speak but was resting more comfortably. On Thursday Mr. HAMILTON will be 80 years old.
"Prayer" was the subject of the meeting, the address being given by Rev. John LAMAR, of the Second Reformed Church.
Rev. Courtney H. FENN, of Peking, China, was present as the guest of Herbert F. La FLAMME, of the Laymen's Missionary Movement, and spoke. He told of the progress now being made in China, particularly in politics and education. As he dwelt on the progress in politics he drew attention to the fact that, contrary to the rule in most nations, the recent reform had come about at the suggestion of the crown, not from the masses. The constitution now being framed would be ready for operation, he thought, not later than 1913. Dr. FENN believed Chinese were superior to the Japanese. Their capacity for usefulness, he thought, was greater.
Mr. GLENN emphasized the need for practical Christianity in the lives of church people. The former governor is an elder of the Presbyterian church.
Rev. James A. PATTERSON, state superintendent of the Anti-Saloon League, was the speaker at the Methodist ministers' meeting held in the First Church. He made criticisms on the administration of Governor DIX. He believed the Governor was a tool of MURPHY and SHEEHAN, he said.

BABY'S BODY, PARTLY EATEN BY DOGS, FOUND

Dead Infant in Hornell Was Perhaps, Killed
Hornell, Feb. 13 - Another dead baby was found in this city this afternoon, making two dead babies and one abandoned found here in the past three weeks.
The circumstances surrounding the finding of this body were most gruesome. About 2 o'clock this afternoon Fred THREEHOUSE, an employee of Thatcher Brothers, saw some dogs with what looked to be meat in the rear of the residence of Charles WESCOTT, No. 54 North Main street. He did not investigate, but later Allen KNIGHT and Raymond WRIGHT, two boys who were playing in the vicinity, saw the dogs tearing at some flesh and, going up, found it to be the body of an infant. The child had been terribly mutilated by the dogs. The lower limbs had been chewed off and eaten and one arm was chewed off. The dogs had also mutilated the back of the head.
It was evident that an attempt had been previously made to burn the body. The infant had been placed in a twenty-five pound sugar sack and presumably, buried in the sand or snow. Coroner WAKELEY and the police department were notified and have begun an investigation.
It is believed the child was murdered. An autopsy has been ordered.

SUICIDE ATTEMPTED BY FATHER OF NINE

Brewery Worker Says His Wife Nagged Him

John STROHMEYER, 43 years old, went to an upper room of his house, No. 49 Loomis street, last night and undertook to hang himself, but didn't succeed, because one of his children saw him hanging by a clothesline and called her mother. STROHMEYER was cut down and arrested.
STROHMEYER is employed in the Bartholomay brewery and works regularly, so the brewery officials say. Last night he went to his home, where he has a wife and nine children, and after a quarrel went to his room upstairs and refused to come to supper, so the police say. A few minutes later one of his little daughters found him hanging by a clothesline. She screamed and her mother went to the room and cut the man down.
A physician who was summoned brought the man to and notified the police. Sergeant ELLIS and Patrolman EMER sent STROHMEYER to headquarters, where Dr. John A. STAPLETON treated him. STROHMEYER said that because he did not always return to the house as soon as his work was over his wife nagged him, and he was tired of it.
