What is the American History and Genealogy Project:
The American History and Genealogy Project is a non profit organization of independent genealogy and history websites linked together to help people find information that they need. Besides State, County and Town sites the AHGP also has a lot of special programs and databases. For a listing of these please visit the US AHGP website. If you have a website that you would like to link up with the AHGP please contact the owner of the State or County that it should be connected with. Should you have a site (or information on a subject not covered) contact Debbie to see if it can be added to the Databases or Special Projects. Sites that are connected with other programs are always welcome, this would give you a second entry point and make it easy for visitors to visit both projects.
What is the American Local History Network:
The ALHN (American Local History Network) is a non profit network of independent webmasters whose focus is mainly on History. Please visit the ALHN Topics pages. If you would like to link your website to ALHN, contact them at: www.alhn.org
What is the US GenWeb Project:
The US GenWeb is a Collection of State and County websites designed to bring you information on Genealogy of the area the site is for. Each website is run by a different person and they may include other information about their area as well. This program is very much like the AHGP above, but puts more focus on Genealogy and less on History as it's name implies. At this time the US GenWeb is largest Genealogy project on the web.. For more information visit the US GenWeb National Page. The US GenWeb also runs a lot of Special Projects that you may like to help out with, please visit the Special Projects page for more information. USGenWeb project pages are managed by independent wabmasters who run their sites as they see best for there area.
Differences between the AHGP and the USGenWeb:
There are very little differences except AHGP deals more with History and the USGenWeb with Genealogy, but they both cover both subjects, depending on the webmaster for the website. Both are trying to supply you with as much information as possible without copying the other. Several websites are part of both projects, which gives both programs access to their information.
How can you help:
1) If their is a State, County or Town that does not have a site for one of these projects you can volunteer to build one.
2) If you have access to Vital Records, Church Records, old Books on History, Etc. we encourage you to type them up and send them into the project that you like the most.
3) If you know of data for a State or County that is already on the web, but not linked to these programs you can send the links in to see if the site owner wants to include them.
