Some of the photographs that have been added to the collection at the Newport History Center have arrived with little or no information to help us identify the people in the photographs. In come cases we are able to match the photo to other photos that we already have or to newspaper clipping in our files. But we are still looking for positive identification of these photos. The people in these photos are believed to be either people who were living in Newport or relatives who sent their photos back to parents or aunts & uncles who were living here.
We believe that the man in this photo may be Orrin Brown. Orrin Brown was born in 1797 and died in 1872. He was married to Laura Cady but we do not know when they were married or when this photo was taken. If you can confirm the the man in this photo is Orrin Brown, we would like to hear from you. If anyone knows the year that Orrin Brown and Laura Cady were married or knows the year that this photo was taken, we would like to hear from you. email@example.com
We believe that this photo may be Laura Cady Brown, wife of Orrin Brown (above). If you recognize this woman and can comfirm that she is Laura Cady, we would like to hear from you. We believe that this photo was taken at the same time as the photo above. If you can tell us the year that this photo was taken, we would like to hear from you. firstname.lastname@example.org
This is a postcard of a boy about 10 or 12 years old dressed in a style that we believe was popular before 1920. He is standing in front of a house with working shutters and four over four windows common in older homes. If you recognize this boy, we would like to hear from you. email@example.com
This postcard was mailed in Newport, NY, on September 18, 1906, by a girl named Anna May. We are guessing that this is a photo of her house in Newport. If you recognize this house, we would like to hear from you. firstname.lastname@example.org
We have had email from Brie suggesting that this postcard may have been sent by 7 year-old Anna Mae Weakley of Norway (the town just north of Newport). We'll be looking into the possibility that we may find this house in Norway.
This is a photo of a young man taken in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We imagine he has gone away to college and has sent this photo back to New York to his family in Newport. He appears to be wearing a collar that would probably have been most popular from about 1880 to 1920. He is wearing a wool coat and vest with a polka dot silk ascot and stick pin. His hair appears to be light brown and his eyes might be blue or hazel. If you recognize this young man, we would like to hear from you. email@example.com
The photograph on this stereocard was taken in Newport, NY. Date unknown. If you recognize the house or the women in the photo, we would like to hear from you. firstname.lastname@example.org
