This is a postcard of a young man wearing a top hat. He is dressed in a style that we believe was popular in the early 20th century. One of the volunteers at the History Center thinks that this young man may be a member of the Seavey family.

There is a very faint name just below the right side of the photograph that may be the name of the photographer. The date below it could be 1901 or 1905. young coupleThis is a photograph of a young couple. Written on the back of the photo is: 1902 A Merry Xmas to Aunt Fanny. Below that are the names Edna and Hugh. The photographer is Harris & Greene of Utica, NY.
 

On the 1900 federal census we found William C. Jones and his wife, Adelaid, living in Floyd (Oneida County) with their 20 year old daughter, Edna H. Jones and their hired man, Hugh M. Evans. Is this a photograph of the same couple two years later? If you recognize the couple in the photo, we would like to hear from you. newhisct@ntcnet.com

A search for someone local named Fannie with the surname of either Evans or Jones turned up Fannie Evans Orvis. She was born in 1850 and died in 1914. Can you tell us if Fannie Evans Orvis was "Aunt Fannie" to the couple in this photograph?  

The same couple appears again in the next photo.

couple with babyThis is a photograph of what appears to be the same young couple with a baby. The photograph was taken by L. H. Greene of Utica, NY. On the back of the photo are the names Edna, Merwin and Hugh.

We looked for a family with the three names on the back of the photo. In the 1910 federal census we found William C. Jones and his wife, Adelaide V. Potter Jones, with their daughter Edna Evans, their son-in-law, Hugh M. Evans and their grandson, Merwin W. Evans, age 6. We think that we have identified this couple.
