PREFACE
The Bowman Family, as far back as we have any knowledge of, who were our great great grandparents came from Holland, and are buried near Albany, N. Y.

Our great grandparents’ names were Peter and Mary Bowman, and are buried in the Belle Isle Cemetery at Van Buren, N. Y., the same place where our grandparents are buried.  To this union were born four children, three daughters and one son, Betsy, Catherine, Lidia and John.  Betsy married a man by the name of McQueen, Catherine married a man by the name of Boley, Lidia married a man by the name of Mann. John Bowman, who was our grandfather, married a woman by the name of Mathilda Minner.

THE BOWMAN FAMILY TREE
John Bowman was born April 15,1789, at Trenton, N. J., and  was five years old, when with his parents he moved to New York.

Matildia Minner Bowman was born Sept 9, 1787, in Connecticut.  John Bowman was married to Matildia Minner.  To this union was born twelve children, Mary Ann, Preston, Lucinda, James, Betsy, Cyrus, Harvey, Ezra, Henry, Hiram, Charlotte, and Fanny.

All of these children were born in one house at Van Buren, N. Y., and all lived to be men and women before any death had entered the home.

Grandpa Bowman, then losing his wife by death in 1854, married his first wife’s sister, Sally Malby.  Grandpa Bowman died in 1869.

Mary Ann Bowman married William McQueen.  To this union were born four children.  William, Emily, Lucy and Calvin.  Mary Ann died in 1872. William died in 1882.

Preston Bowman was married to Maria Safford, and to this union were born three children, Rebecca, John and Lemuel.

Rebecca Bowman married a man by the name of Tulley.  Two children came to this union.  Alice and Clarence. Alice married a many by the name of Hansley, but is a widow now, with two children and lives wither her mother at Castle, Montana. filling the office of postmistress at that place.  Clarence Tulley lives at Twodots, Mont., and is a senator of Montana.

John Bowman, when a young man, went west and spent the remainder of his days in the western states and territories, and died about six years ago, leaving one son by the name of Samuel Bowman.

Lemuel Bowman died in boyhood.

Lucinda Bowman married a man by the name of George Tracy. Four daughters came to this union.  Charlotte, Fidelia, Sarissa and Lucretia.

Charlotte married Eli Perry.  One daughter and two sons came to this home, Lucinda, Perry, Ernest and Fred.

Fidelia Tracy married John Betts and lives at Waterloo, N. Y.  To this union were born five children, two girls, and three boys.  The two eldest are named Tracy and Sarissa, and the names of the other three are unknown to us.

Lucertia Tracy married a many by the name of Atherton.  Three daughters came to this marriage, Eva, Jennie and Lela.  Jennie and Lela died when little girls.

James Bowman married Rebecca Jane Bort.  Eight children came to this union, Caroline, Charles, Jefferson and Washington (twins), Nancy, Frank, Jessie and Sarah.  Washington and Jessie dying in infancy.  James Bowman departed this life in 1900.

Betsy Bowman married a man by the name of Williams.  One son, Thomas Jefferson, was born to this union.

Cyrus Bowman married Rachel Waterman.  To this union were born two daughters, Matilda and Rosa.  Matilda died when a little girl.  Losing his companion by death he then married Sarah A. Smith.  To this union came two sons, Archie and Fred.   Cyrus Bowman died in 1901

Rosa Bowman married Phin. Childs.  Five children came to this home, Reuben, Frank, Emma, Jane and Edward.

Harvey Bowman married Caroline E. Jones.  Two daughters came to this union Lillie and Lizzie.  Harvey died in 1889.

Lillie Bowman married Jesse L. Burns.  Four children came to this home, Florence, Bowman, Mitchell and Charlotte.

Lizzie Bowman married J. S. Harris.  Four children came to this union, one pair of twins who died in infancy.  Mary who passed away at the age of four years and one son, Jack.  These families live at Birmingham, Ala.

Ezra Bowman married Nancy Waterman.  Three children were born to this union, Alice, Willis and Wallace.  Ezra Bowman died in 1902.

Alice Bowman married Ab Cornell.  Two daughters came to this union, Blanch and Jessie.

Blanch Cornell married a Mr. Cole and lives at East Syarcuse, N. Y. To this union were born seven children, one by the name of Alice, and the names of the rest are unknown.

Alice Cole married a  Mr. Carroll.  One daughter, Florence came to this home.

Jessie Cornell married a Mr. Root, and lives at Syracuse, N. Y. to this union were born a daughter, Emma, and a son Clarence.

Willis Bowman married a Miss Farley.  To this union were born six children, John Ezra, George, Farley, Hazel and Maud.

Willis Bowman lives at Memphis, N. Y.

Wallace Bowman married Minnie Beebe. Three children came to this home, Guy, Lilly and Frank.  This family lives on a farm new Liverpool, N. Y.

Henry Bowman was the first to pass away.  He died by drowning.

Hiram Bowman was married to Malinda Earl. Five children came to this home, Libbie, Seward, Florence, Clarence. Hiram Bowman died in 1881.

Libbie Bowman married James Upson of Baldwinsville, N. Y.,  but died a few years later leaving one daughter, Edith.

Seward Bowman married May Niver and lived at Syracuse, N. Y.  Several years after marriage he went to New York City on business and was taken sick there and died.

Clarence Bowman married  Mary Porter of Baldwinsville, N. Y.  His marriage not being a happy one, he was divorced.  He then married an Indiana girl, and lives at Syracuse, N. Y.

Mary Bowman married Lewis Emerick of Fulton, N. Y.

Florence Bowman is still single and lives with her aged mother at Syracuse, N. Y.

Charlotte Bowman married Ira Crego.  To this union were born three children, one daughter who died when a little girl, and two sons, Allen and Burton.

Allen Crego married Emma Herrington.  Four sons and one daughter came to this home, Howard, George, Bowman, Harold and Lettie.  This family lives on a farm near Baldwinsville, New York.

Burton Crego married Mary Fellows. One son, William Allen, came to this home.  This family lives at the old home near Baldwinsville, N. Y.

Charlotte Crego, the last of the John Bowman family to pass away, departed this life in April, 1909.

Fanny Bowman, the youngest of the John Bowman family, married James Keller, but died a few years later.

July 24, 1808  Isaac Mann, son of Jacob, with Peggy Bowman, daughter of Peter.  Both of Guilderland.

August 28, 1808 John Bowman, son of Peter, with Mathildy Myner, daughter of Joshua, Gullderland

Further notes:
Betsy Bowman married Peter McQueen.  We have been unable to locate date and place of marriage.

1830 to 1925.

“CAMILLUS.

Peter Bowman died May 29, 1835.  In the 74th Year of his age.
Mary Bowman 1768-1837
Belle Isle  cemetery.  He was enrolled in Middlesex, N. J., the family having recently come from Holland.  His brother Samuel, two years his senior and unmarried, served through most of the war and died in prison.  The family tradition is that Peter waited on Gen. Washington.  Mary ( Peter’s wife) died Nov. 16, 1837.  Her son, John was born in Trenton, N. J. in 1788, going to Albany with his parents five years later, and to Camillus in 1807.  He had twelve children, and died in Van Buren, Oct. 13, 1869. Leaving prominent descendants.”  Please note the difference in year of birth for John from the genealogy.

Phin. Child mentioned in the above genealogy was a descendent of Willard Childs, who had walked from his home in Onondaga County, New York to Fort Wayne, Indiana  and thence to Kendallville, Indiana entered Fairfield Township, DeKalb County, accompanied by a guide, on March 4, 1837.  He selected and paid for 120 acres on section 27.  He then set out again to Fort Wayne, where he stopped long enough to earn money to take him home.  He then returned to DeKalb County in October of 1844 to view his land and pay taxes.  In 1846 He came to DeKalb County and established his residence.

Descendents of Frederick Boley migrated to Ohio, Michigan and DeKalb County, Indiana.
