Moses Moulthrop, Early Settler in Pompey, Onondaga County, NY

Submitted by Bonnie

The following pertains to an early settler of Onondaga Co., NY. I want to ask if you would post it in hopes that another researcher may have information that would connect him to his parents and siblings. As far as I know he does not connect to my elusive Stephen L Moulthrop/Moltrup.

Moses Moulthrop He enlisted into the 2nd Connecticut Regiment, as a soldier, in April 1781, for a term of 3 years. He remained in the Army during and after the Revolutionary War. He and others were discharged in 1783, in the fall.

He served in Colonel Swifts' Regiment of the Connecticut troops, in Captain Peter Robertsons' company.

Judge in Tompkins County, New York Common Pleas Court gave the above under oath, in September 1818. (James Bennett-a Lieutenant in the same Regiment.)

Moses Moulthrop served for considerable time in the Army, as a life guard of General Washington. (George Washington). This was given as an affidavit, by AZOR PATCHIN, on 28 Aug 1818, and stated also, that he served with Moses, for about three years.

On 25 April 1818, Moses originally applied for his Revolutionary War pension. He was granted the pension certificate no. 3496 dated 8 October 1818. He was awarded $8 per month, to commence on 25 April 1818. Pension certificate was issued in October 1818, and sent to James Wattles, Manlius, Onondaga County, New York.

On 7 September 1820, Moses said his family consists of himself, his wife, Anna, aged 60 years, and his son, Charles, aged twenty, who is infirm, but able to do moderate labor. Said Anna is now wornout with age and hard labor and unable now to labor or provide for herself. His son is healthy and able to labor, and that he, Moses, lives in the house with his son-in-law, on whom he is dependent and his occupation is that of a farmer.

Moses and Mary married 9 February 1832, in Pompey, Onondaga County, New York.

Moses was one of the first settlers of Pompey, New York. Moses lived in Pompey about 45 years, on 8 Nov 1853, meaning he had come there about 1808. Was he back in Connecticut between the time he was discharged from Rev. War service until 1808??

Mary applied for Bounty Land she was entitled to under Act of 30 March 1855. She never before received or applied for Bounty Land. Albert Cook, attorney--represented Mary, to obtain said Bounty Land Certificate for her, at Oran, Onondaga County, New York.
