WILL OF JOHN HAMPTON
In the matter of the last Will
JOHN HAMPTON, ______
The last Will and Testament of John HAMPTON of the Town of Clarendon County of Orleans and State of New York. I John HAMPTON, considering the uncertainty of this mortal Life and being of sound mind and memory blessed be Almighty God for the Savior, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to Say). First, I give and bequeath to my Eldest Son William HAMPTON, the sum of Twenty five Dollars. Item. I give and bequeath to my two younger Sons, Viz. Ellis HAMPTON the sum of Five Dollars and John HAMPTON the Sum of Twenty five Dollars. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Peggy DECKER the Sum of Twenty five Dollars, which said several legacies or t_____ of money I will and order to be paid to the said respective Legates within two years after my decease. I further give and devise to my nephew John DECKER his heirs and assigns all my freehold estate messuages(?), lands, tenements, and hereditaments with the ________ use of there unto belonging of whatsoever name or nature Situate in the Town of Clarendon whole to him the said John DECKER his heirs and assigns forever: Said freehold Estate known by Lot No. Two hundred and fifty five or such a share of Said Lot as rightfully belongs to me Secured by Deed and lastly as to all the ____, residue and remainder of my personal Estate goods and chattels of what kind and nature soever. I give and bequeath to my Said nephew John DECKER whom I appoint one of the Executors of this my last Will and Testament. I also appoint Alexander ANNIS and John MILLERD Executors of this my last will and Testament, hereby revoking all former Wills by me made in witness thereof I have wherewith to set my hand and Seal the 23rd day of March in the year of Our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and thirty two.
Signed Sealed Published and declared by the above named John HAMPTON to be his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have herewith to subscribed our names as Witnesses in the presence of the Testator.

At a Surrogate Court held at the Surrogate's Office in the Village of Albion on the 8th day of March A.D. 1833 in and for the County of Orleans.
Before Alexis Ward Surrogate.
In the matter of proving the last Will and Testament
JOHN HAMPTON, deceased.
On the day and at the place aforesaid John DECKER and Alexander ANNIS Executors of the last Will and Testament of John HAMPTON late of the town of Clarendon County of Orleans ______ appeared and prayed that the said Will be admitted to probate and Exhibited the following proof.
Joseph L. HUNT being sworn Says that he is a resident of the town of Clarendon County of Orleans, that he Subscribed the last Will and Testament of John HAMPTON deceased, that the name of Joseph L. HUNT subscribed to the will now Exhibited to him is in his own handwriting, that he saw John Hampton now deceased Subscribe said Will and heard him declare it to be his last Will and Testament, that the said John HAMPTON was of Sound mind and memory when the said Will was executed, that he the said Joseph L. HUNT Subscribed said Will as a Witness in the presence of said John Hampton and in the presence of Jared THOMPSON and Royal S.SALISBURY Subscribing witnesses to said Will.
Royal S. SALISBURY being sworn says that he is a resident of the Town of Barre County of Orleans, that he knew John HAMPTON in his life time that he saw him Execute the Will now Shown him, that he heard him acknowledge and declare it to be his last Will and Testament and that he subscribed his name as a witness to said Will at the time aforesaid which was the time the Said will was dated and that he subscribed the same in the presence of the Said Testator and in the presence of the other two subscribing witnesses Joseph L. HUNT and Jared THOMPSON, that the Said Testator was of Sound mind and memory at the time of the Execution of said Will, that
after the Execution of Said Will it was handed to the Testator who took that Same and put it into his trunk.
Alexander ANNIS being Sworn Says that Ellis HAMPTON Son of the Testator handed the last Will and Testament of Said John HAMPTON to him since the death of the Said HAMPTON, that the said Ellis informed him this deponent that he took the Same from a trunk in the house of John HAMPTON deceased.

John DECKER being duly Sworn says that Jared THOMPSON one of the subscribing Witnesses to Said Will is not in this State to the knowledge or belief of this deponent, and that this deponent had been informed and believes that the said Jared THOMPSON is now in Canada.
