NAME                    ENLIST      AGE        UNIT
ACKLEY, HENRY T.              4 AUG 62       42      CO. C 110TH INF*
*DISABILITY DISCHARGE 23 NOV 63; died on his way home.
**12/27/03 Note:  Additional information given by a descendant, Marian Steward, due to an error that was listed for Henry Tillinghast Ackley,.  When doing research I'd like to remind everyone to always double-check information, even what is listed in old History books, to insure acurracy.

THE "YOUNGEST CHILD, SHAFFORD TOWSLEY APPL. PENSION FEB. 65"  IS NOT TRUE !!!  THERE WAS NO CHILD BORN AFTER MY GREAT-GRANDMOTHER  SARAH ELLEN (ELLA) ACKLEY WAS BORN.
SOMEONE HAS ADDED SOME MISINFORMATION.

I am a great-great-granddaughter of Henry Tillinghast Ackley and Martha M. Knight. I have the Family Bible with the family record page - list of names and dates.  This book was always on a table prominently displayed in the parlor of the farmhouse on 66 Road, Hannibal, NY; where my grandfather Fred Palmer and my mother Marian Palmer Van Patten were born and lived.  My great-grandfather Nathaniel O. Palmer bought this farm in 1879 and brought his bride Sarah Ellen (Ella) Ackley there to live.
On the page in the big family Bible in the "Marriages" column:

In Church at Sand Bank, Albion,
Married by Rev. Ralph Robinson. (Pastor of Presbt. Ch Pulaski)
Henry Tillinghast Ackley to Martha Minerva Knight
July 9, 1843
That's in Oswego County, New York.
Henry and Martha lived in Orwell, Oswego County, New York
Martha was born Sept 20, 1818, and died Apr 14, 1861, is buried at Pekin Hill Cemetery, Orwell, Oswego, NY

Henry Tillinghast Ackley and his brother-in-law, Lewis Barnes (husband of Henry’s sister, Frances Ackley, Aunt Fanny) enlisted at Oswego in August 1862 to serve in the 110th Infantry. Henry died on his way home. We have his Diary and 5 of the letters written to his children while he was away.

I am very disturbed by all the mix up of name and dates information for Henry and Martha (This isn't the only one). I can’t imagine how it has been so misinterpreted. The associated information is often right, or very close about our family, but the errors are upsetting to me and to my aunt, my mother’s sister. (Especially so since this is on the Oswego County website. She still lives in Hannibal, NY).

My great-grandmother Ella Ackley Palmer, my grandmother Eva Shutts Palmer, my mother and her two sisters were all school teachers, and they were always sticklers for accuracy.

Henry Tillinghast Ackley, born Dec. 3, 1820, and his wife, Martha M. Knight had the following  4  children.

Delia Minerva,  born  Aug 3, 1845
Stephen Henry,  born  Sept 25, 1850
Alfred Denton,  born  June 24, 1853
Sarah Ellen (Ella),  born  Feb 19, 1856
