 OLD HOME WEEK

The suggestion of Old Home Week to stimulate the inborn love of home in the hearts of the natives of Oswego came from Luther W. Mott, President of the Chamber of Commerce, a progressive business organization.

Inspired by the steady growth and industrial prosperity of Oswego, Mr. Mott sounded the note which awakened a responsive chord in the hearts of every citizen.  In the Scribbler's column of the Oswego Daily Times the suggestion was advanced which met with instant favor.  The project grew steadily and the Chamber of Commerce led the movement to prepare for the homecoming of the absent sons and daughters of Oswego.

It is fitting that Oswego, the City of Hospitality, should set aside for a period the cares of business in the struggle for material prosperity to invite those who have gone out from its borders to visit again their native heath and witness its transformation and expansion.  Oswego initiative, push and pluck have enriched every State in the Union.  Sons of Oswego have invariably won success in their adopted homes.  They have assisted in making the fields of other places more prolific, the bench and bar of other cities more learned and their press more profound.  They have followed the flag when duty called and are found in every clime.  Wherever the flag of commerce waves, wherever chivalric daring calls to deeds of high emprise, the sturdy sons of Oswego may be found.

And now she bids them return.  To them she opens wide her gates with words of cheer and kindliest welcoming.  From the field and workshop, from the pulpit and judicial seat, from the halls of learning and positions of prominence in the nation's service, from every line of industry and commercial activity, Oswego, fairest of cities, summons them to the reunions and renewed friendships of Old Home Week.
