Please note that if you decide to contact any of the town historians be sure to give as much information as possible. If you are asking for genealogical information, be advised that NY State Law does inhibit historians a bit. These people are not supposed to use public funds to do genelaogical research. However, they can share information they have access to that might give historical information relating to a particular family or period of time. Many local historians are happy to help in their spare time, but it's up to you to provide them enough information in your letter. Be sure to start with yourself and give as much detail as possible on each generation back to the particular generation you seek information on. It can be quite frustrating when a historian receives a letter that simply states, "Send me all the information you have on the Smith family."
