On the hot and humid weekend of July 19-20, the Rochester Chapter arranged to have a recruitment booth at the Genesee Country Village and Museum's 26th Annual Civil War Re-enactment Weekend. The Museum is the third largest living history establishment in the United States and their Civil War Weekend attracts visitors from all over the northeast. Our booth, located very near the main entrance, saw a steady stream of visitors and a growing list of prospective members. The effort was successful enough that we have asked for permission to have the booth again next year and we hope to work with the Museum officials to establish a Revolutionary War Re-enactment weekend as well.

Mr. Amedio (Mel) Petrangelo spotted DAR Chaplain-General Mary Lou James in a Florida parking lot and asked her if she knew how to contact the SAR. Back in 1941 when he was in the sixth grade in Rochester, Mel was given a good citizenship award, but it showed its age and he wanted to know if it could be replaced. Mary Lou contacted Lindsey Brock, president of the FLSSAR, who called the Rochester Chapter’s president, Steve Clarke. It was impossible to find a blank form from 1941 and a bit difficult to reproduce one, but agreement was achieved regarding the replacement award. At the FLSSAR Board of Managers meeting with Mel, his family and Chaplain-General James attending, Lindsey presented the new certificate during a special and emotional ceremony. L to R.
