Genealogy and History of Rensselaer County, NY

This website was last updated 22 Apr 2014

Welcome to the Rensselaer Co., NY GenWeb! I am your returning county coordinator, Debby Masterson. I was the original CC from 1996, when GenWeb was just starting, to 2002, at which time Lin Van Buren took over.

Some of you will undoubtedly want to contact me asking about your ancestors. If you do, please understand that I only have information about my own ancestry. If the information you seek is not on this website I can and will try to suggest alternate places to look, but that is all I can do. I live in Florida and do not have access to sources in Rensselaer County. There are researchers familiar with county resources that will be glad to assist you for a fee.

Everything you see here in our fully searchable, FREE, 2,400-page database was created, and is still being created, by volunteers. We hope you'll find YOUR ancestors here! And we hope that you yourself will share source records you have by simply emailing your transcriptions of them to me, Debby Masterson, in plain-text form. It is through valuable contributions from people like YOU that this site can grow and become even more helpful to genealogical researchers from all over the world whose ancestors, as mine did, used to live in Rensselaer County, New York.

HAPPY SPRING, EVERYONE!

NOTE FROM COUNTY COORDINATOR: I am testing email addresses of contributors to see if they are valid. If you have contributed in the past and would like to let me know your email address is still valid, please do so. I realize that some of you have contributed to our website more than once, so you may receive more than one email query. I will try to keep duplicates to a minimum and I apologize ahead of time for any inconvenience this may cause you. When I finish sending email queries to all of you, any email addresses that bounce will be listed on this website in the hopes that those of you with out of date email addresses will notify me, Debby Masterson, of your current contact information. I appreciate your patience while I conduct this testing!

In Memory

Linda Jeane Van Buren
August 30, 1946 - March 12, 2013

Lin was the Rensselaer Co. Coordinator from 2002 to 2013. It is largely because of her love of genealogy and dedication to this website that the Rensselaer Co. GenWeb is one of the best websites at GenWeb. She will be missed, but never forgotten by the numerous people from all over the world that she has helped find their ancestors.
