VALENTINE, ALEXANDER. - Age, 22 years. Enlisted, July 28, 1862, at Fort Edward, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. E, September 25, 1862; deserted, October 14, 1862, at New Dorp, N. Y.

VAN ALSTYNE, RICHARD B. - Private, Co. D, Forty-fourth Infantry; mustered in as second lieutenant, Co. F, this regiment, March 2, 1864; discharged for disability, December 14, 1864. Commissioned second lieutenant, March 15, 1864, with rank from February 13, 1864, vice T. D. Jellico promoted; first lieutenant, not mustered, August 22, 1864, with rank from July 30, 1864, vice E. R. Smith promoted.

VAN ALSTYNE, THOMAS J. - Age, 28 years. Enlisted, September 16, 1862, at Troy, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. G, October 6, 1862; mustered out, June 8, 1865, at Fort Monroe, Va.; also borne as Alystyne, Jr., and Van Alstine.

VAN BUREN, ANDREW B. - Age, 19 years. Enlisted, August 12, 1862, at Nassau, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. A, September 25, 1862; promoted corporal, no date; killed in action, July 2, 1864.

VANDERZEE, EDGAR. - Age, 18 years. Enrolled, August 4, 1862, at Troy, to serve three years; mustered in as corporal, Co. H, October 6, 1862; promoted sergeant, no date; first sergeant, April 1, 1863; sergeant-major, March 2, 1864; mustered in as second lieutenant, Co. I, September 7, 1864; as first lieutenant, Co. E, September 8, 1864; mustered out with company, July 19, 1865, at Raleigh, N. C. Commissioned second lieutenant, July 9, 1864, with rank from May 27, 1864, vice N. J. Crippen promoted; first lieutenant, September 16, 1864, with rank from August 19, 1864, vice C. Smith promoted.

VAN DEUSEN, WILLIAM. - Age, 39 years. Enlisted at Nassau, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. G, September 6, 1862; deserted, October 5, 1862, at Staten Island, New York Harbor; also borne as Van Dusen.

VAN GUILDER, RUSSELL. - Age, 44 years. Enlisted, September 13, 1862, at Whitehall, to serve three years, mustered in as private, Co. F, October 6, 1862; discharged, June 17, 1865, at hospital, Fort Monroe, Va.; also borne as Vangilder.

VAN LOON, WILLIAM. - Age, 31 years. Enlisted, August 5, 1862, at Troy, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. H, August 6, 1862; mustered out with company, July 19, 1865, at Raleigh, N. C.

VANNORDER, JAMES. - Age, 31 years. Enlisted, September 5, 1862, at Troy, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. B, October 6, 1862; absent, in hands of Civil Authority at Syracuse, N. Y., since May 3, 1863, and at muster-out of company.

VAN SANTVOORD, EUGENE. - Age, 26 years. Enrolled, September 16, 1862, at Troy, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. G, October 6, 1862; promoted sergeant-major, December 26, 1862; mustered in as second lieutenant, Co. K, March 1, 1864; as first lieutenant, October 10, 1864; as captain, Co. G, May 11, 1865; mustered out with company, July 19, 1865, at Raleigh, N. C. Commissioned second lieutenant, February 6, 1864, with rank from November 29, 1863, vice E. R. Smith promoted; first lieutenant, September 16, 1864, with rank from August 16, 1864, vice H. Mulhall promoted; captain, April 22, 1865, with rank from March 21, 1865, vice C. D. Merrill discharged.

VARNEY, CASSIUS M. C. - Age, 18 years. Enlisted, August 15, 1862, at Fort Edward, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. E, September 25, 1862; captured in action, no date; died, August 21, 1864, at Andersonville, Ga.

VARNEY, OBADIAH. - Age, 23 years. Enlisted, August 15, 1862, at Fort Edward, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. E, September 25, 1862; absent, sick in Post Hospital, Raleigh, N. C., since July 10, 1865, and at muster-out of company.

VARNUM, BYRON. - Age, 22 years. Enlisted at Plattsburgh, to serve one year, and mustered in as private, Co. G, September 19, 1864; absent since at recruit depot, and at muster-out of company.

VAUGHN, AUGUSTUS D. - Age, 28 years. Enrolled at New Dorp, to serve three years, and mustered in as captain, Co. F, October 6, 1862; killed in action, July 30, 1864, at Petersburgh, Va. Commissioned captain, November 10, 1862, with rank from October 11, 1862, original.
