This information was extracted from the Annual Report of The Adjutant General of the State of New York Transmitted to the Legislature January 31, 1868. It was transcribed and submitted by Brad Miter.
The 2nd Regiment of the New York State Volunteer Infantry was organized at Troy, Rensselaer County, N. Y., for two years. It was mustered into the service of the United States on May 14, 1861 and was mustered out by reason of expiration of term of service on May 26, 1863.
[NOTE: A brevet rank was an honorary promotion given to an officer (or occasionally to an enlisted man) in recognition of gallant conduct or other meritorious service. A brevet rank served much the same purpose as medals play today; our modern system of medals did not exist at the time of the Civil War.]
Main battles fought: Big Bethel; Fair Oaks; Glendale; Malvern Hill; Bristow Station; Second Bull Run; Fredericksburg; Chancellorsville.
