30th Regiment NYS Volunteer Infantry Officers' Roster |
This information was extracted from the Annual Report of The Adjutant General of the State of New York Transmitted to the Legislature January 31, 1868. It was transcribed by Debby Masterson.
The 30th Regiment of the New York State Volunteer Infantry was organized at Albany, N. Y., to serve for two years. The companies composing it were raised in the Counties of Columbia, Dutchess, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Warren and Washington. It was mustered into the service of the United States on June 1, 1861 and was mustered out by reason of expiration of term of service on June 18, 1863. The men enlisted for three years, and recruits were transferred to the 76th Regiment N. Y. Vols.
[NOTE: A brevet rank was an honorary promotion given to an officer (or occasionally to an enlisted man) in recognition of gallant conduct or other meritorious service. A brevet rank served much the same purpose as medals play today; our modern system of medals did not exist at the time of the Civil War.]
Main battles fought: Second Battle of Bull Run (28-30 Aug 1862 in Virginia), Gainesville, Groveton, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg.
