Letter from President Millard Fillmore to Rensselaer County woman 19 May 1860 |
This letter, over 145 years old, is in the possession of Dan Light, who has kindly allowed us to reproduce it here. It was written by President Millard Fillmore (1800-1874), the 13th President of the USA (1850-1853), seven years after he had left office. By this time, he had married Troy widow Caroline Carmichael McIntosh (1813-1881) and settled in Buffalo, Erie County, NY. The addressee's name is not given; do you recognise her?
