Will of William Hammond
A copy of the last will and testament of William Hammond deceased with the
proof thereof - Recorded Feb 10th, 1810 -
In the name of God amen I WILLIAM HAMMOND of the Town of Pittstown County of
Rensselaer and State of New York , ____ being in perfect health of body and of
perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God, calling to mind the mortality of
my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die Do make and ordain
this my last will and testament that is to say
first of all I give and recommend my soul to God that give it and my body I
recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the
discretion of my Executors [trusting?] in God that he will raise me up at the
last day, and touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me
with in this life I give and devise in the following manner -
First give and bequeath to ELISEBETH my dearly beloved wife all my household furniture
with all my farming utensils of every kind together with my weaving loom
to my____ five shillings,
I give to my beloved daughter SARAH five shillings
also I give to my beloved son PAUL five shillings,
also I give to my beloved Daughter UNCEES Five shillings,
also I give to my beloved son WILLIAM five shillings,
also to my beloved daughter PERNELL? Five shillings -
also I give to my beloved daughter RUTH five shillings,
also I give to my beloved Daughter MARY five shillings
and lastly I do authorize and appoint my trusty friend ELIZABETH HAMMOND my wife
and ANTHONY MILLER [sic - as written] my Executors of this my last will
and testament [and] do hereby ratifying this to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal done at Pittstown this
twenty fourth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and one.

Signed, sealed in the presents of the words in the 15 line interlined before executed
to my son BENJAMIN five shillings -

Rensselaer County:
Be it remembered that on the nineteenth day of February in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and ten personally appeared before me Alanson Douglas
Esquire Surrogate of the said County of Rensselaer, FRANCIS PURDY one of the
subscribing witnesses to the will of William Hammond late of the town of Hoosick
in the County aforesaid deceased who being duly sworn declared that he did see
the said William Hammond sign and seal the written instrument purporting to be
the last will and testament of said William Hammond bearing date the twenty fourth
day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred one
and hear him publish and describe the same as and for his last will and testament,
that at the time thereof the said William Hammond was of sound disposing mind and
memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of the said Francis Purdy and that
the said Francis Purdy together with Simon Newcomb Junior and David See the other
witnesses to the said will severally conscribed their hand and names to the said will
as witness thereto in the presence of the testator and of each other.
