The Staten Island Historical Society had an effort to gather family Bibles in the 1930s. I've heard that they keep them in folders in a filing cabinet.

The FHL microfilmed these folders, turning a little-known resource to a widely available, little-known resource. The film number is 0509187.

I have borrowed the film on extended loan and am making notes as time permits. Please, feel free to request images of specific folders! Use the email link at the bottom of this and every page.

Note that they are typically 1-2-3 pages long and are transcriptions rather than the pages themselves. My notes are info of interest. Always check the original image. And note that the folders are not sequential: some are missing, some are out of order; on the film.

Do NOT copy this info en masse to your tree! The Bible records were usually not written at the time of the event; they are subject to transcription error; and I have found differences with known baptisms. The oral histories are subject to their own errors. Use it as a guide.

This project is being done in three phases.
