History and geography
Rockland County was formed
on 23 Feb 1798 from Orange
County. It is across the Hudson River
from Westchester County [Westchester
GenWeb] [Westchester
ALHN], and is only
about 25 miles northwest of New York City. It is on the New Jersey
state line, next to
Bergen County, NJ.

sides of my family lived in Rockland County for the past 160 years
or so, but I have
never lived there. I grew up mainly in Monmouth Co. New Jersey and
Chester Co.
Pennsylvania, and my personal experience with Rockland consists
mostly
of frequent visits to
Pearl River, Nanuet, and Central Nyack as a child. Since 1979 I
have
lived in the South
Bay region of Los Angeles Co. California.
