Mrs. Jane Blackwell obituary
Waukesha Freeman (Waukesha, WI) - October 15, 1885
Blackwell - At her residence in
Waukesha, on October 10, 1885, Mrs. Jane Blackwell, relict of Mr. Chas.
Blackwell, nearly 57 years of age.
Mrs. Blackwell was born October 27, 1828, in Schoharie County, N. Y. In her 16th year she came to Waukesha. Here she married Mr. Chas. Blackwell, on February 17, 1847. To them four children were born - two sons and two daughters.
Mr. Blackwell having died in the service of his country in 1864, devolved the rearing of the young family upon Mrs Blackwell, and during the 21 years of widowhood she bravely performed her duty with tendere love and care.
For some years past she was a great sufferer, but always displayed the patience, cheerfulness and heroism of her Christian faith. Her last hours were cheered by the presence of her children - Chas. E., and Mrs. H. A. Whitcher, of Valley City, Da., and Mrs. M. A. Mann, of Waukesha. Ed. W. of Cooperstown, Da., was with his mother shortly before her death, but was not able to be at the funeral. They mourn the loss of a loved mother and in their bereavement have the true sympathy of a large number of neighbors and friends.
Mrs. Blackwell was a worthy member of the Baptist Church of Waukesha.
The funeral services were held on Monday, October 12th, at the house and were conducted by the Rev. Robert Leslie of the Baptist Church.
