Membership

Any genealogical organization in New York State is eligible for membership, which entitles the naming of two delegates who serve as the link between NYSCOGO and the individual society. "Genealogical organization" is defined as any organization that considers itself to have a genealogical function, including, but not limited to, genealogical, lineage and historical societies, libraries or archives with local history and genealogical collections.

Notice to genealogists and other researchers

NYSCOGO and this webpage is run by volunteers. As an organization, we are not able to offer individual help with your family history research. However, we can point you to member organizations throughout the state that might be able to help you. Keep in mind that many times the first step in researching New York State is to access NYGenWeb online and click on the appropriate county page for records and contact information.

That URL is:  www. rootsweb.com/~nygenweb

Our Member Organizations

Please visit our "Member Societies" page and review their websites. They have many exciting programs planned for the upcoming year which you may be interested in attending. Some also have research material available, (free and for a charge), that can help you with your research.

Effort to Reduce the Cost of Vital Records

Click on the above link to read about this effort.  The cost of vital records in New York State is more than twice the average of any other state. Something must be done to get this cost at a level were most can afford it. We need everyone's support in getting this effort passed in the State Legislature.
