Thomas ROWLES (b. 1753; probably Baltimore, MD; d. 1813 Steuben Co, NY) m.
Christiana BRANSON (b. 1756?; d. 1803 Steuben Co, NY), 2 Feb 1787 Baltimore.
They moved to Bradford, Steuben Co, NY, c1800, where he reportedly open the
area's first hotel.
David ROWLES (b. Oct 1792; d. 1868 Monroe Co, IA), a son of Thomas and
Christiana, m. Rebecca CLARK (b. 1798 Dutchess Co, NY; d. 1882 Monroe Co,
IA), 8 Aug 1814 Steuben Co, NY. David was a War of 1812 veteran. They migrated
first to Covington, Fountain County, IN, in 1823, where David (like his father)
opened the county's first hotel or inn; they moved to Iowa Territory in 1844.
There are numerous ROWLES/ROLES/ROLLS families in 18th century Maryland.
Can anyone identity Thomas's connections there? Did any other of the ROWLES
families of Maryland move to New York State? (This seems an unlikely migration
pattern....) Information on the parentage of Christiana BRANSON and Rebecca
CLARK would also be most welcome.

Seeking information about the STEUBEN CLUB in New York state. Some sort of

I am in need of some assistance in finding the first wife of my grandfather
Herman Stratton. He married Sarah Drake of Horseheads on October 5, 1901
in the village of Wayne. I have no record of her death or a divorce, although
I know that was not done very often then. My Aunt Winifred's birth certificate
states that there had been 2 children born to Herman before her. One we know
of,Robert the other we think may have been a child Sarah. Also do you have
any records about Perry B. Stratton, he was the father of Herman and the
grandfather of my dad Gerald L. Stratton. My grandmothers name was Grace
M. Whitney. She was born in Addison. I would love to have any information
about Sarah Drake Stratton or any of the others. Thanks.

family. Moved to Scranton, PA early 1800's. Angenette passed away in 1892
and Peter found his way to upstate NY around 1895. In 1904 he married my
grandmother , Cora Vangelder, and raised 2nd family in Bath, NY. Some records
are under the surname STEWART and others under STUART. Found a Mary (Steward)
Holbert listed as Carrie McKee's mother in Syracuse, NY who may have been
Peter's sister. Also a Samuel Stuart is listed as father of Eldine Burns,
mother of Guy Burns, Guy now lives in Canandagua, NY. There are connections
here someplace but hard to ferrit out. Guy is a second cousin, once removed

ROGERS
I am seeking information on the John ROGERS family from Greenwood, Steuben,
NY I am a descendent of Abraham WILLIAMSON of Greenwood. Abraham's son Chester
b Nov 6, 1823(25) m Electa ???? (possibly a ROGERS) and they moved to Bureau
Co., IL before 1860. I am led to believe that Electa was a ROGERS by the
following: Bureau Co., IL land records Book 98 page 179 filed Nov. 24, 1888
at 7:00A.M. shows that the children and heirs at law of John ROGERS to wit:
Nelson ROGERS and wife Catherin, John ROGERS and wife Lodina, Jackson ROGERS
and wife Elizabeth, Freeman ROGERS and wife Charity all of Steuben Co., NY,
Bilsy (Knox???) a widow, Caroline GREEN and husband Pardon, Catharine PERKINS
and her husband Alexander all of Alleghany Co., NY sold to Chester and Electa
WILLIAMSON for the sum of $1.00 and other good and valuable considerations
a 40 acre lot in Bureau Co., IL. Chester and Electa had purchased
8 acres in 1885 for $100.00. Apparently the price of the land indicates that
somehow either Electa or Chester were related to the ROGERS family. Chester
and Electa named children Pardon and Seymour. I find the name Seymor ROGERS
in the census records (WFT FTM 1850). Also, according to the census records
of Family Tree Maker WFT census bundle, the WILLIAMSON and ROGERS families
were living close together in Greenwood. In fact the 1850 census has some
of the WILLIAMSON children listed on the same page as the ROGERS family.
Abraham WILLIAMSON had a daughter named Charity. Is this the Charity, wife
of Freeman ROGERS? If you have any genealogical or biological information
on these people, please e-mail or snail mail me.

ROACH I am trying to find the parents names of Chester ROACH, born
April 1833 in Bath, Steuben county. He was first discovered on the 1850 census
in Bath living with the Archibald GATES family. Chester was 16 years old
at the time. His occupation was listed as "farmer". In 1855 he was again
found in Bath living with the Lawrence CHURCH family. His occupation was listed
at Tinner. I have been unable to find any information on his parents in the
county records. Since Chester was just 16 in 1850 and living with another
family, I thought possibly his parents had died and left him orphaned. It
was not uncommon for boys younger than that to leave home and go to work
for other families, but I had hoped there would be something on his parents
in the census, or if they had died, in the probate records etc. I have written
Steuben County many times and they find nothing. Will appreciate any clues.
