Need documentation on the parents of Ezra A. TOBIAS (born 20 Jan
1801, near Bath, NY - died 22 Oct 1899, Baltimore Twp., Barry Co., MI). Family
records give his parents' names as Daniel TOBIAS (supposedly killed by a
bear) and Mercy FITCH. a family member wrote that,"He and his nine brothers
were orphans by the time Ezra was eight. There was no money for shoes so
Ezra went to school barefooted. In the winter he carried with him a long
slab shingle. When his feet got too cold running through the snow he would
stop and stand on the shingle to warm his numb toes." Ezra's father was born
in Scotland but came to America and fought against the British in the
Revolutionary War. Ezra was born in 1801, in Seneca Co., New York. His mother
died when he was three, his father five years later.
