Program Descriptions

Date Program Description
April 6 Joe Titti - “Genealogy 101 Part 1”
Joe will briefly cover the basic tools to be used in starting to research your family history: getting started, research forms, interviewing family, obituaries, initial census work, plus many more. Joe will be available the following Tuesday evening at the Broome County Library Genealogy center to help interested attendees.
May 4 Ted Warner - “Endicott History & Heritage Center Presentation”
Ted is a former Endicott Historian and the director of the center. The first part will be a presentation of the formation & history of the old Village of Union, the formation and history of the Village of Endicott, and then the merger of the two Villages. This will be followed by a tour of the IBM museum on the 1st floor, followed by a tour of the 2nd floor museum containing Union, Endicott, & EJ Shoe Co., memorabilia.
PLEASE NOTE: Presentation will be made at the ENDICOTT HERITAGE CENTER, located at 40 Washington Ave. Entrance is off Madison Ave, behind the Cinema Saver Theater.
June 1 George Cummings - “How George Washington Started the French and Indian War”
George is an 18th Century antique collector, historian and guest lecturer who specializes in talks on Colonial American Life, the French & Indian War and the American Revolution. He will have a number of historical artifacts, tools, weapons of the period and more on display.
July 6 Linda Suskind Green with Bonnie Baker-Duff - “The Kilmer Family of Binghamton”
History of the Kilmer family of Binghamton will be presented: their homes, family and businesses which included Swamp Root and the race horse, Exterminator.
August 3 Gary Emerson - “The Sullivan-Clinton Campaign”
The Sullivan-Clinton Campaign of 1779 was one of the largest military operations of the American Revolution, yet it is largely forgotten. What are the origins of the campaign? How it was conducted? Why it is often overlooked today in histories about the American Revolution? The talk will include many maps, pictures, and stories. The Sullivan-Clinton Campaign’s impact is debated by historians, but it influenced our area’s place names today.
September 7 Joe Titti - “Genealogy 101 Part 2”
Joe will continue briefly covering additional tools used to research and publish your family history. Included will be more detailed census work, property & estate records, naturalization & immigration records, internet sources & genealogies, software to help publish, etc.

Also on September 7 . . . During the business portion of the September meeting, we will be taking nominations from the floor for the October Election of Officers for 2018.

October 5 Everyone - The very popular “Show and Tell” night.
Dig out your favorite photos, scrapbooks, and family heirlooms. If you don’t want to speak to the whole group, you needn’t; but bring a display if you can. Show what you’ve been up to during the past year. Did you travel to a new resource location? Have you discovered a great new source of info on the internet? Read a great helpful book? Come one, come all, and enjoy!

Also on October 5 . . . Election of Officers for 2018
