John Davies was one of the founders of the Welsh Congregational Church in Richville and was the Deacon of the church until his death in 1882. They called him "Deacon Davies".

John Davies was born about 1807 in Cardiganshire County, Wales. Married Mary Evans in 1837. He died 8 February 1882 at Gouverneur, New York and is buried in the Wayside Cemetery, Richville, New York
Mary Evans was born 1816 in Llanagranog, Cardiganshire County, Wales the daughter of Griffith and Ann(Richards)Evans. She was baptised 26 February 1816 at the Trewen Independant Chapel in Brongwyn, Cardiganshire County, Wales. She died 25 April 1888 at Gouverneur and is buried in the Wayside Cemetery.
They had four children all lived to adulthood.
James was born 18 October 1839 at Penbryn, Cardiganshire County, Wales, baptised 21 November 1839 at the Glynarthen Independant Chapel in Penbryn, Cardiganshire County, Wales. He married Susan about 1866. He died 2 August 1881 at Pittsville, Wisconsin.
John Jr (listed as a welsh pioneer.)was born 21 May 1844 in Wales. He married Margaret Jones (listed as a welsh pioneer.)in 1869. He died 20 October 1918 at Gouverneur and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur, New York.
Griffith E (listed as a welsh pioneer.) was born 9 August 1849 in Penbryn and baptised 15 September 1849 at the Glynarthen Independant Chapel. Married Emma M. Merton on 5 September 1878. He died 14 February 1925 and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery.
Mary Anne was born about 1852. She died in 1873. And was buried in the Wayside Cemetery.
