Died. The Late Simeon H. Austin. Simeon H. Austin died at his home on Barnes street, this village, Sunday morning. The funeral is being held from his late home this afternoon. Mr. Austin was in his fifty-third year. Simeon H. Austin was born in the town of Fowler, July 23, 1844. He was a son of the late S.A. Austin, one of the well known residents of the country. For many years he followed the occupation of a farmer and later embarked in the mercantile business. In both lines his efforts were attended with sucess and he amassed a handsome competency, which has been much added to since he became connected with the Racqette River Pulp company of this place and Colton. Mr. Austin was a quarter owner in the concern and was its secretary. Mr. Austin enjoyed a wide acquaintance in this and surrounding towns. His circle of intimate friends was smaller, but all who were so fortunate as to count him a friend appreciated his worth and now sincerely mourn their loss. Mr. Austin had been supervisor of Fowler and had also held minor elective positions. About three and a half years ago he moved to this village and has since been one of Gouverneur's respected citizens. Mr. Austin was twice married. His first wife, Althea Hazelton, bore him two children, Clarence J. and Miss Jessie Austin. His second wife was Miss Ella T. Sterling, and as a result of this union there is one child, Pauline Sterling Austin. Mrs. Austin and the three children survive him, as do four sisters, Mrs. Anna E. Kelley and Miss Rosalie M. Austin of this village, Mrs. Viola E. Griffin and Miss Allora E. Austin of Fine, and Lyman L. Austin of Little York. The illness which claimed Mr. Austin as a victim was a puzzling one. Some months ago his condition was believed to be very serious but he partially recovered. About six weeks ago, accompanied by a physician, he was able to go to New York to consult with some of the experts of that city and if necesary to undergo an operation. The metropolitan physicians held out little hope for his recovery. He returned home and as he has been able to take an occasional ride about the village until very recently, no immediate results of a serious nature were expected and his death came as a saddening surprise to the community. [02/15/1897]

Died. Conklin. The remains of Walter Conklin were brought here for interment from Richville, Saturday afternoon. Mr. Conklin was well known here. He leaves eight children, Mrs. E.E. Osler of this village, Morton and Sanford Conklin and Mrs. B.G. Woodard of Dekalb, Herbert and Edward Conklin, and Mrs. John Dean, of North Gouverneur, and Mrs. D. Seaman, of Hermon. [02/15/1897]

Word has been received here of the very serious illness at his home in Rutland, Vt., of Mr. Charles Pooler, formerly of this village. Mr. Pooler had a severe attack of pneumonia which has been followed by blood poisoning, and at last accounts his condition was critical. Mr. Pooler is a native of this town and has many friends here whose sympathies will be with him in his affliction. [02/15/1897]

And the lips that we loved had often repeated "I am so weary, I long to go home." Yes, she was so weary, so weary of suffering, Her pain tortured body was longing for rest. The pitying Angel bent over and kissed her, And, lo! she was sleeping the sleep of the blest. She peacefully sleeps, her pain all forgotten; And none can awaken her now save the Lord. She was ready and waiting, her work all competed. She has gone on before to receive her reward.
