Died. VanOrnum. At Hailesboro, Aug. 11, 1899, of diptheria, Glenn Drury, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Q.A. VanOrnum, aged 3 years and 2 months. There's a fresh little mound near the river, Where our jewel was laid away. To shine in the realms of glory, To sparkle in endless day. There were pretty blue eyes, but they slumber, In silence beneath the dark mould, And the little pet lamb of our number Has gone to the Heavenly fold. Gone is our happy sunbeam; We saw it in smiles depart. Gone is our darling Drury, The pride of home and heart; Gone is our gentle baby, His carol on earth is o'er; Though lonely all day we listen, He answers our call no more. There is a silence in parlor and chamber, There's a sadness in every room; We know 'twas the Father who claimed him, Yet everything's burdened with gloom. Caught up through the golden portals, Where saints and angels stand, With welcome to those who enter That beautiful summer land. Ah! But our faith is winging Its flight through the clear, blue sky, Where sorrow can never enter, And pleasure can never die. There we shall find our Drury, Not in the silent tomb, Not in a little casket, But clothed in immortal bloom.
