Births, Deaths, Marriages from the Gouverneur, NY Herald
These announcements are also a user contributed database under rootsweb.com. That site
has a post-it note feature that allows you to leave a note associated with whichever
birth, death or marriage notice you select. You can view other's notes and get in touch with
them and leave your own e-mail address for others to contact you. From www.rootsweb.com,
scroll down to 'submitting your database to rootsweb' then click on 'searchable databases'
and follow the links to U.S., NY state, and the various contributed databases or use
this link: Database to select the
Gouverneur Herald records. Note that where the screen says 'newspaper, optional' you have
to click the down arrow and select 'Gouverneur Herald' or simply search every paper in
thier database.
This information was transcribed from a scrapbook of vital statistics clipped from the
Gouverneur Herald from the mid 1860's to ca. 1902. The transcription and indexing
was done by Russell Sprague
using Paradox. Note that many notices had incomplete dates. If you see a date in
brackets (not in the text of the announcement) then that was Russ' best estimated of the
actual date based on surrounding items in the scrapbook. The announcements are in the same
order as the original scrapbook. The original scrapbook was copied by Norman Young.
The Paradox file was converted to the current format by Judy Boxler.
