Troy Irish Genealogy Meeting Minutes
Finnbar’s Restaurant - June 20, 2013

Members Present: Heidi Klinowski, Grace Bulger, Timothy Stone, Kris Ayotte, Gerri Sherry, Jan Sullivan, Bill and Cathy McGrath, Noreen Iacobucci, Gail Landrigan, Jeanne Keefe and Patrick Surace.

1. Call to Order:

President Tim Stone called the meeting to order. No new members present. List members total 269 and Face Book likes total 368.

2. Treasurer’s Report

Lizette Strait submitted the treasurer’s report that reads as follows: The previous balance as of May 31, 2013: $3,746.48. Expenses: $200.00 (St. agnes Cemetery Heritage Fund). Deposit made in the amount of $20.00, June balance was $3,766.48. Petty cash is $21.63 making total assets: $3,788.11. Total paid members: 74. There were 80 paid members in 2012.

3. New Business

Kris Cooney Ayotte reported on the TIGS Trip to Ireland leaving on April 17th, 2014, Easter Week. She sent out an email to members with the details. She plans to rent a mini-bus to take travelers from Troy to Kennedy Airport and back again. You canbook your own airfare touse your milege if you like. She reserved 20 spots and 14 are spoken for as of this date. She suggests that you purchase the trip inusrane for $199.oo and give her a deposit by August 8, so you can save 5% ($77.40) upfront.

4. Project Updates

1. Bill McGrath reported that since the last meeting there have been additions to the website. Book 5 of Interments from St. Mary's Cemetery in Albany, starting in November of 1952 have been scanned (233 pages) and 20 pages are now out to transcribers.

2. Church Memorials - New - Information on St. Bridget's Church in Watervliet is being collected by Chris Connell.

Updates - St. Lawrence's Church in Troy, 3 new photos (Men & Women and Girl's Classes) and some additional names.

The Demolition of St. Patrick's in Watervliet, photo of the bell tower being demolished.

St. Peter's Church in Troy, Handout, article on the two stained glass windows that were moved and installed at Sacred Heart Church in Troy.

St. Mary's Church in Albany, Copy of a painting of the first church built in 1797 located in the Ten Broeck Mansion.

3. 1904 Troy Directory Deaths listing completed through T.

4. Possible New Data Series for the website:

(a) A copy of the May 30, 1945 Troy Newspaper Article listing the local Troy casualties from World War II. It lists the dead and injured, name and location.

(b) List of names buried in the cornerstone of the Soldiers 7 Sailor Monument in Troy.

(c) List of the 507 Civil War Soldiers buried in St. Agnes Cemetery, listing their rank, Company, regiment, date of death and age.

(d) 1907 & 1909 Journals of the Board of Supervisors of the Rensselaer County Orphan & Destitute Children.

Other Business:

Heidi Klinowski thanked TIGS on behalf of Bernie Vogel, the administrator of Oakwood Cemetery for our donation to help preserve a Plots and Internment Book of 120 double pages. TIGS requests that we be allowed to link to this resource from our website, especially the Civil War Soldiers Index.

Looking for volunteers to man a TIGS table on mid-August at the Civil War Heritage Days sponsored by the Watervliet Museum and the Mowhark Hudson Gateway. The event will talke place at Schuyler Flats.

The next meeting will be at St. Agnes Cemetery on July 18th at 6:60 PM
