TROY IRISH GENEALOGY SOCIETY

The regular monthly meeting of the Troy Irish Genealogy Society
was held on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the M.J.’s on the
Avenue in North Troy, New York. The following individuals
were in attendance:

The meeting was called to order at 6:45 p.m. by Kris Ayotte, Vice
President, in the absence of President. Kris welcomed
Brad Miter and his wife from Ohio, Mary Kohli and Mary Griffin
from Iowa and Pat McAvey, originally from County Longford and now
residing in Troy and the Minahans who have returned to the Troy
area from Connecticut. The members were also happy
to meet Frank Miter and his wife as well as Lynne Gould who was
attending her first TIGS meeting.
A motion was made by Jeanne Keefe and seconded by Mimi Nicotina
to approve the minutes of the September 20, 2007 meeting. The
motion passed. The minutes have been published on the TIGS
There were no reports from the President, Vice President or Secretary.
Cathy McGrath, Treasurer, reported that the beginning balance
was $1323.29. Expenditures made and income received was
reported. The current balance in the treasury is $1087.73. There
are 97 paid members.
Jeanne Keefe, Webmaster, reported that everything is up to date
on the website. Lizette Strait, List Administrator, reported
that there are 197 list members.
Bill McGrath, Project Chairperson, reported that scanning of Volumes
IV and V of the Rensselaer County marriage index has begun. He
asked for volunteers to assist with the scanning. Pat
Plunkett and Lynne Gould volunteered to assist and learn the process.
Kris Ayotte discussed the upcoming trip to Ireland. She
explained that the tour will be from April 17 to April 24 in conjunction
with CIE Tours; the cost is $1650. There are 14 seats available
and anyone who would like more information should contact Kris.
Lizette reported that the newsletter is scheduled to be published
shortly and will be available to paid members. Kris has not
received a response to the grant funding request she submitted
on behalf of the Society. The list of names of past
Exulted Rules of the Troy Elks has been completed by Kris White
and will be published on the website.
The members discussed inviting a speaker to a future meeting. Mimi
Nicotina offered to contact Jack McEneny to determine if he would
be available to speak at a meeting.
Kris Ayotte had an opportunity to look at some of the old records
from the former Stanton Brewery in Troy. The records
will be given to the Rensselaer County Historical Society. She
reported on some of the interesting information she found.
After a brief discussion, it was agreed that payment of dues by
new members after October 1, 2007 will constitute payment of 2008
A motion was made by Jeanne Keefe and seconded by Pat Plunkett
to adjourn the meeting. The motion was approved and
the meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m. The next meeting
will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 6:30 PM.
Brad Miter shared information regarding his genealogy work and
demonstrated equipment he uses to copy records and to store information.
