Siloam Welsh Congregational Church
The Siloam Welsh Congregationalists of Freedom and Farmersville, NY formed a religious society in 1856. In 1870 they erected this house of worship at the corner of Siloam and Blue Roads on the Freedom border in Farmersville, Cattaraugus County, New York. For many years the Siloam church shared a minister with the Fairview Welsh Congregationalists. Services were discontinued at Siloam in the late 1930's. In 1941 the structure was moved eastward down Siloam Road to the Carlyle Rich site where it was used as a residence until destroyed by fire ca. 1970. A few miles away on Maple Grove Road, Town of Freedom, the Siloam Cemetery contains many Welsh burials including both Siloam and Fairview Welsh. Illustration: Drawing of the Siloam chapel by Michael Sparling is based on a faded photograph printed in Farmersville Sesquicentennial, 1821-1971 by Mildred Edmunds.
