A. Slutz was shown as being 10 years old and born in Ohio. Both of his parents had been born in Ohio.• He appeared on the 1900 Federal census on 4 Jun 1900 in New Rochelle, Westchester county, New York. 3 A. He had been married for five years.• He received medical attention for injuries from the train wreck on 8 Jan 1902 in New York, New York. 7 He was treated for a fractured right leg which was later amputated and for severe burns at the Flower Hospital.• He was mentioned in an article in "The New York Tmes" published on 13 Jan 1902 in New York, New York. 8 "Winfield Slutze, who received a fractured right leg and dangerous scalds in the railroad disaster in the Park Avenue tunnel on Wednesday last, died early yesterday morning in the Flower Hospital, corner of East Sixty-third Street and Avenue A. His injured limb was amputated Saturday, and he could not survive the additional shock. Mr. Slutz, who was thirty-one years old, was a resident of New Rochelle, employed to this city as a salesman. He was married. His body was taken to Pittsburg (sic), Penn. yesterday for internment."• His funeral was held in Jan 1902 in New Rochelle, Westchester county, New York. 9 "Winfield Slutze died on Sunday morning in Flower Hospital. Slutze was thirty-one years old and lived in this city on Columbus place. He sustained a fracture of the right leg and severe bruises and scalds. The right leg was amputated on Saturday, at which time the patient's condition was critical. He was unable to overcome the added shock of the operation."
"His body was taken late Sunday afternoon to Pittsburgh for burial. Mr. Slutze leaves a widow and two small children. He formerly lived in Cincinnati, where he was in the employ of the Standard Oil Co. He came to New York two years ago, and at the time of his death was a salesman for J. J. Crook & Co., manufacturers of tinfoil. He was the only son in a family of seven, he having six sisters."• He had an estate probated in the Surrogate's Court on 8 Feb 1902 in White Plains, Westchester county, New York. 2 The Letters of Administration assigned his wife Minerva C. Notice to prove claims. In pursuance of an order of Hon. Theodore H. Silkman, Surrogate of the County of Westchester, Notice is hereby given to all persons having claims against Winfield A. Slutz, late of the City of New Rochelle, in said County, deceased, to present the same with the vouchers thereof, to the subscriber at her place of transacting business at the office of Hibbard, Pratt & McAlpin, No. 1 Nassau, corner Wall Street, City of New York, on or before the fifteenth (15th) day of April next.
