The family moved briefly to Cleveland Ohio 2 CONC when Lorraine was 13, for one year, and then returned to their home on 2 CONC Laurel Street in Elmira, New York. Lorraine took a secretarial 2 CONC program in High School, then graduated from Southside High School in 2 CONC Elmira, New York in June, 1940. She worked for one year in Elmira, 2 CONC and then moved to Rochester, New York with her family, when her father 2 CONC took a job in Rochester with Eastman Kodak Company. Lorraine worked 2 CONC as an executive secretary for Herbert Waggershauser. She was married 2 CONC to Ernest Lee Wiedrich on June 15, 1945. She worked at Kodak until 2 CONC 1951, when she decided to concentrate efforts on having a family. She 2 CONC was a mother and homemaker to Joyce, Lee, and later to Joanne Carol 2 CONC Mason, after her divorce, in February 1962; marrying Judson Mason on 2 CONC September 22, 1962. They honeymooned in Bermuda. Lorraine and Jud 2 CONC loved doing things with the family, and together, themselves. Summers 2 CONC were always at the cottage on Keuka Lake. Jud and Lorraine met many of 2 CONC their life-long friends square dancing. Lorraine used to ride Joyce 2 CONC and Lee to the end of the Bluff in the aluminum boat nearly every day 2 CONC when they were small, while at the lake. The children learned to swim 2 CONC and ski; there were many bonfires by the shoreline. 2 CONT 2 CONT Lorraine and Jud loved to travel. At Easter, Lorraine and Jud always 2 CONC took a vacation with the family. Places of interest included 2 CONC Washington, D.C., Myrtle Beach, S.C., Williamsburg, Va., Jeckel 2 CONC Island, Georgia, and numerous trips to Florida. By this time, 2 CONC Lorraine's parents Harry and Annabel Barth had a trailer in Avon Park, 2 CONC Florida. Visits would often be there, and the family often rented a 2 CONC house or motel rooms on the Gulf coast of Florida, including Anna 2 CONC Maria Island, Siesta Key, and Longboat Key. 2 CONT 2 CONT Lorraine and Jud had a zest for life. They had numerous vacations to 2 CONC Europe, after the children were out of high school, including a trip 2 CONC to Europe in 1973, and trips to Spain in 1976 (Portugal was omitted 2 CONC due to Civil War), Greece, Yugoslovia, Ireland, England, France, and 2 CONC Italy. Many of these trips were group ventures with their numerous 2 CONC square dancing friends. They took their children to Hawaii in 1973, 2 CONC after Lee was out of High School, and Joyce out of Nursing School. 2 CONC This was a two-week trip to the big island of Hawaii, Maui, Kauai, and 2 CONC Oahu, with an overnight stopover in Los Angeles on the way home. 2 CONC Lorraine and Jud returned to Bermuda via a cruise for their 25th 2 CONC wedding anniversary. The summer before Jud's sudden and untimely 2 CONC death, Lorraine and Jud went to Europe, and were joined for 10 days by 2 CONC Joyce and Lee. They rented a car, and met Joyce and Lee in Munich. 2 CONC They visited Insbrook and Salzburg Austria, and went down to enjoy the 2 CONC sights and history around Venice, Italy. It was a beautiful trip 2 CONC spent staying in bed and breakfasts. 2 CONT 2 CONT Lorraine is a great seamstress. She made clothes for herself and her 2 CONC children. She enjoys crafts, her friends and familly, her home, 2 CONC antiques, and rubber stamp art and card making. He was a "100-day 2 CONC Wonder", and served in the bomb dispersal area in Sicily, Italy, 2 CONC during WW2, attaining the rank of Captain. He returned to Ontario, 2 CONC New York, and employment at Eastman Kodak Company. He had 2 CONC corresponded with Lorraine Barth during the War, through friends Joe 2 CONC and Georgette Taylor, from Rochester, NY. He dated her following his 2 CONC return to New York. They were married on June 15, 1945, at Colgate 2 CONC Rochester Divinity School in Rochester, Monroe County, New York. 2 CONT 2 CONT Ernie enjoyed his hobbies of golf, fishing, and bowling. Ernie joined 2 CONC the Masonic Organization. He and Lorraine had children in the early 2 CONC 1950's; Joyce, Janice (deceased), and Lee. Lorraine and Ernie were 2 CONC divorced in 1962. Ernie was remarried to an Alice McNulty on August 2 CONC 28, 1970. Ernie was not particularly happy in this marriage, however. 2 CONC He took early retirement from Kodak in 1978. At this time, he enjoyed 2 CONC going to garage sales, and saw more of his children, as they had grown 2 CONC up. Copied 2 CONC in a visit to the Historical Society in Batavia on 9-18-97. 2 CONT 2 CONT Wiedrich, George D., is the recognized leader in general merchantile 2 CONC business in the town of Bergen, New York, a progressive man of 2 CONC advanced ideas. He was born in Wyoming County, New York, on August 2 CONC 21, 1853. Henry Wiedrich, father of George D. Wiedrich was bound out 2 CONC to a farmer, with whom he lived until he was seventeen, when, on 2 CONC account of ill treatment and no school advantages granted to him he 2 CONC left and began life for himself at farm work by the month; he never 2 CONC had the advantages of a school education until after he was twenty-one 2 CONC years of age, when he availed himselfof a few limited opportunities to 2 CONC attend school. George D. worked on his father's farm and attended the 2 CONC district school. When seventeen years of age he taught school for two 2 CONC years and then entered a general store in Elba as a clerk, where he 2 CONC remained for fifteen years, and while there he was assistant 2 CONC postmaster over thirteen years. In 1886, in partnership with E. T. 2 CONC Chamberlain, he purchased the stock and business of a general store in 2 CONC Oakfield; in 1890 they purchased the stock and business of S. J. 2 CONC Arnold of Bergen, retaining their store in Oakfield. In 1892 they 2 CONC severed their copartnership relations, Mr. Wiedrich taking the Bergen 2 CONC store, which he has conducted ever since. His many years of 2 CONC experience in the mercantile business has qualified him for a 2 CONC successful career in that line. He has the largest and best stocked 2 CONC general store in town, with a trade in proportion. Since his early 2 CONC manhood, Mr. Wiedrich manifested a keen interest in all public and 2 CONC political affairs, and when twenty-one years of age was elected to the 2 CONC office of town clerk of Elba, which he filled with credit for two 2 CONC years. He often represents his district in the Democratic county and 2 CONC assembly conventions, and in 1894 was honored by the nomination for 2 CONC the office of assemblyman. Mrs. Wiedrich had been 2 CONC an invalid 7 1/2 years. She knew that she must die, but sustained by 2 CONC her Christian faith, she had no fear of death, and when the summons 2 CONC came it found her ready and waiting. 2 CONT 2 CONT Mrs. Wiedrich was the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Hofmann of Elba. 2 CONC She was borne September 21, 1856 at Wende, in the town of Alden. 2 CONC December 29, 1875 she was married and began housekeeping in Elba, 2 CONC where she lived 11 years; removed to Oakfield, where she lived 4 2 CONC years; thence to this village in April, 1890. Eighteen years ago she 2 CONC united with the Methodist-Protestant church of Elba, transferring her 2 CONC membership by letter successively to the Methodist-Episcopal Church of 2 CONC Oakfield, and the Methodist -Episcopal Church of Bergen. She always 2 CONC took an active part in church work, and was a power for good in all 2 CONC the churches with which she was connected. Mrs. Wiedrich was the 2 CONC mother of three children, twoof whom, Walter and Ernest, are living. 2 CONC Lula died in infancy at Elba. Beside her husband who is sustained in 2 CONC his great bereavement by his Christion faith and the sympathy of 2 CONC neighbors and friends, Mrs. Wiedrich is survived by her parents; six 2 CONC brothers, Henry, John, and Charles, of Elba, George, of Wende, William 2 CONC of Batavia, and Herman of this village, and one sister, Mrs. George 2 CONC Hardigen, of Elba. 2 CONT 2 CONT The funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:30 o'clock in the 2 CONC Methodist-Episcopal church in this village and at 3 o'clock in the 2 CONC Baptist Church at Elba. On 2 CONC September 21, 1842, he married Miss Elizabeth Dittman, who died on 2 CONC June 11, 1907. He had spent 58 years in Genesee County, having resided 2 CONC in Stafford and Elba as well as at Indian Falls. He was a member of 2 CONC the East Pembroke Lodge of Odd Fellows. 2 CONT Besides his daughter, Mrs. Houseknecht, Mr. Wiedrich is survived 2 CONC by three sons, George D. of Bergen, John of Elba, and William of 2 CONC Medina; a daughter, Miss Carrie Wiedrich of Pembroke, 23 grandchildren 2 CONC and six great-granchildren. 2 CONT The funeral will be held from the Methodist-Episcopal church at 2 CONC Indian Fallsat 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, and the burial will be at Elba. 2 CONC The East Pembroke Odd Fellows will have charge of services at the 2 CONC grave. 2 CONT 2 CONT The remains of Henry Wiedrich were interred in Elba on Sunday 2 CONC afternoon beside the remains of his wife in the Maple Lawn Cemetery, 2 CONC ceremonies at the grave being conducted by the Odd Fellows. About 40 2 CONC relatives and friends were present at the services at the family home 2 CONC at Indian Falls and accompanied the remains to Elba.
