CHAPLIN descendants in New Zealand- I am searching for all descendants of James CHAPLIN (1818-1897).

He was married thrice.

Sons from second marriage emigrated to New Zealand. If you are descended from:

  • David CHAPLIN (1850-1925) or
  • John Milner CHAPLIN or
  • William CHAPLIN (sometimes styled CHAPLAIN) (1855-1923) who married Bridget (nee ORMOND) in Brisbane Queensland then I would like to make contact.

Family were in Invercargill, New Zealand up to around turn of the century, and were orginally from Cambuslang in Scotland. The patriarch, James CHAPLIN, died in Dumferline, Scotland, in 1897. You can write to me, Suzanne Maiden, by e-mail or at GPO Box 1316, Adelaide, South Australia 5001. Posted 2 Nov 1998.

Joseph EAMES, died 4 June 1919 in Auckland Hospital and was buried on 6 June at Waikumete Cemetery. He was a returned soldier, perhaps serving with the Auckland regiment. GIJZEN and VAN DER PLAS Family Trees- In my Van der Plas family research I have found 12 individuals in New Zealand with the Van der Plas name and would like to find out if they are in some way related to our family. I am Kless Gyzen, of Dutch decent, whose mother was a van der Plas. My mother, Willemijntje, was the first child born to Willem van der Plas and Hermanna Catharine Muller in 1901, one of 7 children. Other children were Gerard, Gerardina, Willem, Hendrika, Lourens and Jansje. Would appreciate any information on the 12 Van der Plas' listed in New Zealand to determine if they may in some way be related to this branch of the family. Kless Gyzen. Posted 14 Feb 2002.
