January 5th 1866
Gun Accident. The engineer, William Henry Williams, of the steam the Yarra has lost his life by a gun accident at Hokitika, when out shooting with Captain Nicol, of the same steamer. William was climbing over a dead tree. William was a native of the Isle of Wright.
Death by Drowning. A party of five consisting of Messrs. Gilkison, Rose, Charles Dudley, Beswick, and Mr Gordon Robertson, left Kaiapoi for the purpose of bathing in the Waimakariri. Robertson drowned.

An accident which had nearly attended with fatal results from the use of fencing wire, occurred to James Macdonald, Esq., of Waitaki, on Saturday night last. He was riding from Blue Cliffs Station in the direction of Waitaki, when he was suddenly rendered senseless by a fall from his horse. On regaining consciousness we walked and reached Pareora Station about four o'clock on Sunday afternoon completely exhausted.Otago Witness Saturday January 27th pg 13

Man drowned in the Waitaki.
On Monday evening last another addition was made to the long list of lives lost in crossing our dangerous rivers. Mr Monteith, who was in the company with another man named James was proceeding to the neighbourhood of Ashburton for the purpose of taking some sheep from thence to Otago, arrived at the south side of the Waitaki Ferry (Brown's) on Monday evening at dusk. He and James were on horseback, and James was also leading a packhorse. Mr Monteith insisted on riding through the river.April 20 1866

A bullock driver named Robert Smith, a lad of sixteen, came home to the Waimate with his dray on Sunday, and complained to his parents of having caught a cold. At one o'clock in Tuesday morning he died. No inquest.June 13 1866. Dunedin telegrams.. 8th June
A man named Anthony, lately servant to Father Moreau, found drowned at Rattray-street, Jetty, Dunedin.
