December 16, at Temuka, of diarrhoea, third son of Mr. J. MARTIN, storekeeper, aged 15 months

On the 18th December1869, drowned off Timaru, James Melville BALFOUR, Esq., aged 38, Marine Engineer to the New Zealand Government, youngest son of the late Rev Dr Balfour, Colinton, near Edinburgh, very deeply regretted. Also on the same day, A. B. SMALLWOOD, Esq., aged 23 years.

An Inquest was held at the Timaru, on the12th ult., before B. Woollcombe, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Alfred Beaumont Smallwood, late clerk of the Bank of New Zealand there, who met his death by the capsizing of a boat on the 18th December, 1869, while going from the shore to the s.s. Maori, lying in the roadstead. Verdict- Accidentally drowned.

An Inquest was held at the Woolds Station, McKenzie Country, on the 17th of August, on the body of James Helding, aged 55 years, by T.A. Clowes, Esq., Coroner. Verdict - Injuries received through a fall from a horse.

An Inquest was held at the Glentanner Run, McKenzie Country, on the 8th September, 1870, on the body of John Brown, aged 26. Verdict - Found dead.

An Inquest was held at the Orari, on the 12th ultimo, by B. Woolcombe, Esq., Coroner, on the body of William Stranks, aged 42, Verdict - Died from disease of the heart.

An Inquest was held at Pareora Flat, Timaru, by B. Woolcombe, Esq., Coroner, on the 28th ultimo, on the body of James Bell, aged 60, farmer, who died on the 26th of disease of the lungs. Verdict accordingly.
