Death of a West Coast Pioneer -
Mr Nichol Ramsay, of Black's Point, Reefton, died the previous Friday. Mr Ramsay arrived in Australia 30 years ago. Made a trip home in 1868 to see the old folks. He followed mining chiefly in NSW and during the rush to Otago, he began a store. ... Mr Ramsey was a native of Shetland, and about 50 years of age.

Arrived - Sept. 22 - Arauco, barque, 572 tons, Thomas McKay, from Wellington. Captain Webster, the Harbour Master, proceeded out to meet her in the tug Titan, accompanied by Pilot Storm and others. She is a wholesome looking iron barque, and is owned by Duncan, Fox and Co., of Liverpool. She will be loaded here for Home port by Messrs Miles, Archer and Co., on account of Mr Michael Studholme.
