WHITE. At the Manse, Pleasant Point, on Dec. 30th, 1895, Margaret, the only
daughter of the Rev. J. White, aged 13 years.
MILNE. On 2nd January, 1896, at the Star Hotel, Temuka, James Milne, aged 43.
Native of Perthshire, Scotland.
LAGAN. On January 14th, at Church Street, Timaru, (suddenly of septicaemia),
Mary Lagan, aged 39 years. Deeply regretted. R.I.P.
CLARK. At Blair Athol, Temuka, on January 19th, Alister MacIntosh Clark, aged 60
years.
HANIFIN. At his residence, Seadown, on 25th January, 1896, Cornelius Hanifin,

An inquest is to held at Fairlie, in to the death of a man named Alexander
Blackwood, a carpenter, who died suddenly at Rockwood on Monday.

BONE. On Feb. 1st, at Masterton, Margaret Maria, the beloved wife of William R
Bone, and eldest daughter of William Alfred and Margaret Hobbs, of Waimataitai,
aged 32.
MILES. On December the 20th last, Grosvenor Chater Miles, aged 39 years.
BRUCE. On February 5th, at Timaru, (the result of a buggy accident), Jeannie
Russell, the beloved wife of James Bruce, Wellington, aged 56.
WEBB. On January 31st, at Springbrook, St. Andrews, Alfred Sydney George, the
dearly and only beloved son of James and Ellen Webb, aged 3½
years. Deeply regretted.
ROSS. On the 3rd inst, through injuries received in a fire at Rotorua, David
John, second son of Jessie and the late Andrew Ross, Glenorchy, West Town Belt,
Timaru, aged 25 years.
CAIRNS. On February 11th, 1896, at his son (Patrick Cairns) residence, Otipua
Road, Timaru, John Cairns, aged 53 years. Deeply regretted.
MITCHELL. On February 16th, at his residence, Ashburton, after a long and
painful illness, William Mitchell, aged 48 years.
ROBERTSON. AT his residence, South Street, Timaru, on February 16th, 1896, James
Robertson, aged 51 years. Deeply regretted.
RYAN. On the 20th inst, at Rose Street, Timaru, Patrick John, the eldest and
dearly beloved son of the late John Ryan, and Julia Ryan. Deeply regretted. Aged
19 years and 10 months, R.I.P.

NOTICE;
An old South Canterbury settler, Mr Malcolm Ferguson, who for many years was
well known as a farmer in the Hook district, and for a few years latterly has
lived in Timaru, died somewhat suddenly at half-past 2 o'clock yesterday
afternoon after a short illness. He became indisposed only last Thursday
evening, and refused to have a doctor. Yesterday afternoon, however, his
brother-in-law, Mr R. McQueen, fetched a doctor, who at once saw that his
patient had but a very precarious hold of life, and said that he could not live
another day, and he in fact died an hour later.

of Crown Lands and Chief Surveyor, Southland, aged 51 years. (Brother of Mrs

ROWE. On November 21st, 1896, at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr D. Evans,

CAGUE. At his residence, St Andrews, on the 2nd inst, Samuel Cague, aged 55.

GRANT. On Dec. 9th at his parents residence, Temuka, James Crombie, second
eldest son of James and Nancy Grant, aged 17 years.
BENTLEY. At Wellington, on the 4th inst, Charles Bentley, father of Mrs W.
Collins, Woodbury, aged 76. (Arrived Otago by the John Wycliffe in 1848).
SUTTON. On December 12th (the result of an accident on the Timaru wharf) Thomas
Sutton, eldest son of John Sutton, Esq., Godenstone, Winghan, near Dover,
England. Deeply regretted.
AITKEN. On December 15th, at Pleasant Point, (from sunstroke) William Aitken,
aged 28 years.
GOODMAN. On December 29th at his residence, High Street, Timaru, Russell James
Goodman, aged 51 years.
