Richard Irving
Born 1837. Married in 1887. Had 7 sons and 4 daughters. One of the leading
Clydsdale breeders in South Canterbury was Richard Irving, who came from
Scotland in 1867 with a draught-in-tyre for the Levels state. He remained on the
station until 1882 when he bought 300 acres at Albury for the NZ and Australian
Land company. Gradually he increased his holding, called Brown Hill”, to 1770
acres.
