Jimmie Hay
I know a lad called Jimmie Hay
He is no darned play actor;
At home he always has to stay,
And be his father's factor.
He'll jump up when they him arouse,
And first he'll make the porridge;
And then he'll go and milk the cows,
And find the pigs some forage.
And after breakfast he has got,
He'll start and churn the butter;
To save his mum he'll bring a lot
Of wood, and coal, and water.
Then to the fields to see his flock
He'll hie, the anxious sinner;
And there he'll toil till twelve o'clock,
When he comes home for dinner.
From dawn till dark it's work with Jim,
The poor unfortunate slavey;
I'd chuck it all if I were him,
And go and join the navy.
